The Sikh religion originated in India to stop the Islamic jihad. Many Sikh Gurus were killed by Muslims.
Americans are ignorant about world religions. Now that they have imported everyone, Americans will have to educate themselves; who is the friend and who the enemy.
VERY IGNORANT about any culture or religion that is different from their own. Sad.
You're kinda painting with the same broad brush. I think over all, Americans have as good a grasp or better than the rest of the world. As always, on any subject, we hear from the vocal minority.

Speak for yourself. As a religious minority, I find myself answering questions about my faith pretty regularly...but I'm consistently surprised by how much the average American already knows about my faith. The truly ignorant ones are almost always foreigners, usually east and south Asians.
I was raised in a Christian country, so I'm familiar with Christian beliefs and traditions. (Though I don't really know the difference between various Protestant sects, I find most Christian Americans don't either.) I am familiar with the broad strokes of Hinduism, Sikhism, Jainism, etc. because of the field I work in (I.T.) where a very large number of my coworkers follow those religions. I'm less familiar with Buddhism, mainly because the Buddhists I've talked to don't seem to really understand it either.
I'm also familiar with Islam; I've known a lot of Muslims and have asked a lot of questions.
So....yeah. Speak for yourself.
