I think you've missed the point. The San Bernardino massacre was done by Jihadists (Islamic terrorists). Sandy Hook, Luby's restaurant, and the Colorado theater shooting were not Islamic terrorists. I wonder if you even bothered to read the linked article? Apparently not.

It is possible to stop Islamic terrorists, if we have the right tools and have the resources needed to investigate suspicious activities, and we quit calling would be "whistle-blowers" "Islamophobes," and "bigots." The neighbors in this case were suspicious, but failed to act because of fear of being called a "racist bigot."

Additionally, the mosque which Syed had been a member of had been part of an investigation which had been shut down by the Obama administration.

Hindsight being 20/20, Yes, it could have been prevented for the following reason.

1. Tashifee Marlik, passed three background checks by U.S. immigration officials as she moved to the United States from Pakistan. None uncovered what she had made no efforts to hide. She talked openly on social media about her views on Violent jihad. SHE SUPPORTED IT.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/13/us...re-missed.html

I guess many would just view her as another "moderate" muslim with strong opinions against foreign policy. Huh? I always believe the moderate Muslims should be REDEFINED.

2. To obtain the K-1 visa and the conditional green card that permitted her to live in the United States, Malik had to undergo background checks by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, but authorities apparently turned up nothing that gave them pause.

http://graphics.latimes.com/san-bern...ashfeen-malik/

makes you wonder if K-1 visa should be overhauled.

The FBI said Friday the shooting officially was being investigated as an act of terrorism, following reports authorities believed Malik pledged allegiance to Islamic State group leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and posted a statement online pledging support for the militant organization.

Lawyers and immigration experts describe the K-1 visa process as anything but lenient. The Shankers applied for the K-1 in spring 2001, but didn’t receive an interview until six months later. The visa took an additional several months after that to be approved, but Pradheep Shanker said he suspected it would have taken longer if he hadn’t been in contact with a U.S. senator to help expedite the process.

Yes, it could have been prevented.

Hind sight is always 20/20.
The problem with preventing such things is those in charge of our security have to try and think like lunatics. I would imagine that, that isn't an easy task.
We receive countless threats. Which one do we act upon?
911 there was some warning. Systems that could have prevented it didn't exist or were less than perfect.
We were warned by Russia about the Boston bombers. That one most likely could have been prevented if only we listened.
We can prevent some risk by restricting immigration from countries who are hostile towards us.

Yes, we shouldn't have Muslims here because the book they live their life by justifies all manner of violence and oppression and is not compatible with life anywhere...the philosophy of dominance and death this religion promotes is a cancer to humanity.

If US officials had discovered the messages Malik posted before she applied for her visa from Pakistan last year, red flags would have gone up and she likely would not have been approved for entry.
Malik was screened by Homeland Security officials then the State Department before she entered the US and then faced a third screening after applying for a green card, the NY Times reported.

Obviously, if somebody supported violent jihad, then they shouldn't have been allowed to enter the country they hated so much. No? Common sense stuff.

If somebody supported violent jihad on social media network, then they should be deported. NO? Common sense stuff.

If more people were armed it may have cut down on casualties but would not have prevented it. If more people were armed in general it would deter crime. People would be a little more apprehensive about committing a crime not knowing what they are up against. If there is a greater possibility of hey this person may have a gun and could potentially do me in it would make people think a little harder before committing a crime.

Well how exactly does the FBI monitor all these people in addition to the 700,000 on the watch list, how many agents do you think they have.

Yet another reason why the bulk retention of phone records don't work by the way.
