In regards to the Mizzou Football team that threatened to strike if campus president did not step down a state rep will introduce a bill that strips players from scholarships.
He said quote, “If you're going to engage in this type of behavior, we'll find someone else who wants to play,”
In principal the state rep is correct, but in reality it would destroy the Mizzou football program for years to come.

The Coach gave in to Blackmail - those 30 players weren't the entire team, just the top players. Coach should have told them "OK", but you will be suspended (for X games) and could lose your scholarship.
It set a bad precedent to give in to MOB blackmail. Those kids signed a contract with the University - it did NOT contain a "we won't play unless the President of the University resigns" clause, nor did it contain a clause to support MOB actions over the good of the Football program and the University that pays for their College Education and living expenses.
MIZZOU is a State University and gets their funding from Missouri Taxpayers. IF the Coaching Staff can't control the Team (and they showed they can not/will not) then it's the JOB of the elected State Legislature to protect the Taxpayers.
The Rep is a dick. The scholarships should be tied to getting an education, not in playing football. Yes, perhaps they were earned from playing football but the goal should be an education. What they did most certainly can be an educational experience for them.

First of all no one is sure how the other 90 players would of reacted or just how wide spread the boycott would of been. Not disagreeing with any of your points, and yes maybe Coach Pinkel could of done more to mediate a resolution, but pulling scholarships in that magnitude would destroy the program. Future recruits would not touch Mizzou with a 10 foot pole. It is simply a know win situation if we want College Football or Basketball to remain (high revenue, high profile) as it is today.

They have athletic scholarships to play football. Refusing to play for non-health related reasons should end the scholarship. It shouldn't take a law for a state-funded school to see that. Whether any big $$$ athletic program would risk doing what's right is another story.

As I said, the #1 concern should be in getting an education.

Have you seen the Mizzou football program lately?
Gary Pinkel was the bright spot, and now he's gone. After carrying six 4-star commits last year, they have had zero 4-star and just five 3-star commits since the protests. This looks like a political move, but really this is because everyone is afraid of the financial implications of players who go on strike for wages and other benefits.
