We get it. You folks on the right hate Obama to the point that naming a highway after a U.S. president, which is not uncommon, is offensive to you.
I'm sure your buns didn't get wound up in a tizzy when they named President George Bush Turnpike in Dallas or the
Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway in Cincinnati, the Gerald Ford Freeway (I-196) in West Michigan.
Around Chicago or in Hawaii would have been more appropriate.
Bush from Dallas
Reagan from California
Ford was from Michigan.
Others took issue with naming the road after President Obama, because they believe he hasn’t done anything to help the struggling community.
“What we do we have to show for Barack Obama on Old Dixie?” asked one Riviera Beach woman who said she’s lived in the area since the ‘60s, NBC reported.
Her concern was echoed by Chair Dawn Pardo and two other residents who spoke and said the area is full of blight, NBC reported.
“It makes you want to cry because it could be better than what is it,” another resident said.
Still, the mayor argued the change was necessary to move the community in a united direction, the station reported
That explains why they want to name it after Obama. Full of blight, makes you want to cry.
Mayor of Rivera Beach told WPTV 5;
Quote:
“[The Old Dixie Highway is] symbolic of racism, symbolic of the Klan, symbolic of cross burnings and today we are stepping up to a new day, a new era, and replacing Old Dixie with Barack Obama, who represents change.”
I used to live in Palm Beach county. Where this road is located, isn't exactly a place that most would want to go to, despite it's location. Almost seems to be appropriate to name it after Obama. A perfect metaphor for that he has accomplished while President.
