Here is how to fix the Oscars controversy......

Dump the pomp and circumstance, the broadcast, the speeches.....EVERYTHING.....

Make a tiny, cheap plastic participation trophy and give one to everybody then send them home. Don't forget a coupon for a free happy meal, a taco or hamburger for each of them.

There, done! Sheesh!

Isn't BET a black entertainment network?

Anyway, I suppose that if the Academy voters were made up of 94 percent minorities, and they only nominated minorities for these awards for two years running, the fur would indeed fly.

It is all a matter of perspective.

Not sure "Hollywood" is really complaining, but the media likes their click-bait headlines. I do understand why black actors and producers would complain though, since winning or even being nominated for an Oscar weights heavily with how much money they can demand for future projects.

Right now they are under-represented in the Academy, which does appear to have a diversity problem. Someone posted earlier that the Academy voters are mostly older males, with very few black members. And I read that the way the nomination process works is members must choose their picks by marking each movie as a first, second, third, etc. choice. If there are a lot of movies/actors coming up in people's first and second choice columns, then those movies/actors get nominated. If a lot of the members chose a movie like Straight Outta Compton as a fourth or fifth pick, then it would not get nominated. Having a largely older set of members or largely white members voting could hurt movies like that.

Charlotte Rampling calls these recriminations out as acts of racism in their own right:
Quote:
Charlotte Rampling Says Oscars Uproar Is ‘Racist to White People’

Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling says the current uproar over the diversity of this year’s Academy Awards is unfair to the white actors who were nominated.

“It is racist to whites,” Rampling, who is nominated for best actress for her role in the British film 45 Years, told French radio station Europe 1 on Friday morning, in comments that were translated from French.

She dismissed the idea of introducing a minority hiring quota to the film industry. “One can never really know, but perhaps the black actors did not deserve to make the final list,” Rampling added.
It is offensive, isn't it? And unless these Hollywood elites are total selfish hypocrites, they will remember their experience with this the next time that they are tempted to rush to get behind some group rushes that is indiscriminately hurling racial insults and attacks when they do not get an outcome that they want.

And yes, there is racism in our country, which is embraced and practiced by people of every skin color imaginable. But just because someone calls others names like this one, that does not mean that their accusations are truthful.

Kinda ironic that conservatives worship a product of the Hollywood studio system, eh?
