Under our system, there is no skill set more highly valued and compensated than that of lobbyist. Why do public university presidents draw nearly 7 figure salaries as 'public servants?' because their primary skill set is that of lobbyist. Where are the peals of outrage from liberals over 7 figure salaries for public U presidents?

Under lapierre, the NRA has been routinely rated by surveys of DC staffers as the #1 most effective lobby. LaPierre is probably underpaid. I only wish that there were other lobbies devoted to other BOR amendments with the same effectiveness of the NRA.

I cannot disagree with you. More laws won't change anything. The problem of millions and millions of guns available (legally or otherwise) to hot tempered and disturbed people in our nation is WAY beyond control. I personally believe that there are no real answers to this problem. There are too many irresponsible gun owners in our country that make their guns available to children and mentally disturbed relatives.

You are probably correct, but the incredible violence in our nation demonstrates that many people are NOT influenced by laws. For those people, it's a problem with their mind and conscience. Laws cannot change these issues.

Yep. The sad reality is that some people are just wired wrong. No law will ever fix that.

I'm not concerned whether you see me as intelligent- I have not insulted you, but like so many pro gun folks- you do not seem able to control your mouth or emotions. I've spoken with thousands of people on this website, and I find that pro gun folks are the most close minded, defensive and insulting group there are. Even muslims have more respect in their responses. Grow up- people have the right to disagree with your views, and you can't change that. I don't disagree with the 2nd amendment, I just don't see the need for all the guns including assault weapons that people seem to want. I personanlly don't believe it helps defend homes and families. Many more innocent people are killed by guns that are legally obtained yet irresponsibly cared for by pro gun folks. They are stolen, people are killed accidently- including children. I can't change our gun crazy culture, but I can give my opinion on it- just like you do. Try to give your opinions without being insulting or condescending.

I respectfully disagree. There are plenty of ways to reduce crimes but the government has done nothing.

Here's a DOJ report that would make your blood boil that is if you truly care about the issue.

I'll summarize but you can read the details. In 2010, of the 72,659 background denials, meaning those people lied, in writing, on the firearm purchase form 4473 and are punishable for 10 years in prison and $100,000 fine, only 62 were charged.

https://www.ncjrs.gov/pdffiles1/bjs/grants/239272.pdf

So before someone wants to impose more regulations and more laws to criminalize law abiding citizens, read that report please.

I often wonder why all that money is necessary to lobby Congress against gun control measures if we as a country feel so strongly about unrestricted gun sales. The gun control debate includes a host of complicated issues, but one thing for sure, the gun makers have a lot of money at stake when it comes to restricting the sale of their products.

Bonus question: do more guns sold mean more or less incidents of gun violence?
An armed society is an armed society.

Guns are equalizers.

The NRA is promoting equal rights.

"in support of a wide range of firearm-related public interest activities of the National Rifle Association of America and other organizations that defend and foster the Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding Americans. These activities are designed to promote firearms and hunting safety, to enhance marksmanship skills of those participating in the shooting sports, and to educate the general public about firearms in their historic, technological and artistic context. Funds granted by The NRA Foundation benefit a variety of constituencies throughout the United States including children, youth, women, individuals with physical disabilities, gun collectors, law enforcement officers, hunters and competitive shooters."

Please explain to me how NRA deviates from this "agenda"?

The problem with your argument is that a standard .22 will kill as efficiently as an "assault rifle" .22.

People that are intent on killing someone doesn't care about the labels you have placed on someone.

Ban "assault rifles" and it will matter none to the one wanting to kill someone else.
