Ben Carson Says He Was Recruited To Be House Speaker In 2014

Quote:
House conservatives tried to recruit retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson to run for speaker of the House in 2014, the Republican presidential candidate told The Hill on Thursday.

Can you imagine an unelected person being 2nd in line of succession and running Congress?
I can't believe Ben Carson didn't take a stab at it.

Well this just can't be, because we're told conservatives are so racist and hate that there's a black man in the White House...

I used to admire Dr Carson because I thought he wasn't as inclined to maul the truth like regular politicians. But, I got over it.

What perfect way to pretend they aren't than to pick their token black figure and make him a more prominent figure?

Wouldn't he need to be elected to congress first?

One is appointed by a party, the other is elected.

It's never happened, but there is no requirement that they are an elected Representative. It can literally be anybody.

I heard the same thing this morning. I would have to say I was shocked, but I do know it can be done. Newt said, if asked this past year he would consider it. I just always assumed, like most of us, you had to be a member of congress to run.

oh for heavens sake: have you looked at how many minorities are serving in elected positions that are Republicans? How about a black supreme court judge as well as a Republican party leader a few years ago, and appointed black Republican cabinet members?

Yes. All the Dem candidates are old and white. So much for diversity.
