"The armed takeover of a federal government building in Oregon comes amid a renewed expansion of the far-right, antigovernment militia movement in the wake of the 2014 standoff between federal agents and heavily armed antigovernment activists in the Nevada desert.

In its annual count of militias, released today, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) identified 276 militia groups – up from 202 in 2014, a 37 percent increase."

We all know, Militias are illegal in the USA.

Try and form an organized well regulated militia today, training in domestic tactical warfare.
The 2nd amendment, clearly says we the people have the right to organize an army of the people, using our own weapons.(the reason the people were suppose to have the weapons and not the government)

I'm equally confused.

"The militia groups included in the SPLC count typically adhere to extreme antigovernment doctrines and subscribe to groundless conspiracy theories about the federal government."

Aside from this, I saw no actual definition for militia. If my neighbors and I went to a firing range or a defensive pistol class, would that make us a militia?

This is the definition provided when you type in "militia definition" to Google.

mi·li·tia
məˈliSHə/Submit
noun
a military force that is raised from the civil population to supplement a regular army in an emergency.
a military force that engages in rebel or terrorist activities, typically in opposition to a regular army.
all able-bodied civilians eligible by law for military service.

While the Oregon crowd certainly could fit the second definition, specifically the rebel activities part, I don't think we have nearly 250 militias who think they can overthrow the government.

By the third definition, assuming you are over 18 and under 55 or so, you're militia as well. We all are.

If the militia is to be "well regulated" it begs the question............who is doing the regulating?

Here is the definition of REGULATION:

Quote:
: 1 the act of regulating : the state of being regulated

a : an authoritative rule dealing with details or procedure <safety regulations>

b : a rule or order issued by an executive authority or regulatory agency of a government and having the force of law

In the archaic, its meaning is "regularized," "dispersed," "everywhere," "distributed," "ubiquitous."

"Whereas civil-rulers, not having their duty to the people duly before them, may attempt to tyrannize, and as military forces, which must be occasionally raised to defend our country, might pervert their power to the injury of their fellow citizens, the people are confirmed by the article in their right to keep and bear their private arms."
Tench Coxe, in Remarks on the First Part of the Amendments to the Federal Constitution

"The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed."
Alexander Hamilton, The Federalist Papers at 184-188

Per Consitiution.org

The phrase "well-regulated" was in common use long before 1789, and remained so for a century thereafter. It referred to the property of something being in proper working order. Something that was well-regulated was calibrated correctly, functioning as expected. Establishing government oversight of the people's arms was not only not the intent in using the phrase in the 2nd amendment, it was precisely to render the government powerless to do so that the founders wrote it.

They don't like Obama for the same reason they didn't (and still don't) like Clinton, Obama being black isn't the reason. If Hillary wins you can bet the numbers of militia groups will continue to go up.

Here is the definition of REGULATION:

The right of the people to organize and train in domestic tactical warfare, without government interference.
Because we know, that shall not be infringed upon.

Every person learns from each other, what has worked best for them. Like the military does it.
Well regulated, like a fine working clock.
A measurement of excellence.

Militias or whatever you want to call them are not illegal unless they break the law, pretty much what the Bundy's have done. The 2nd amendment indicates a well organized militia, what's your definition of well organized
