For those interested I made a thread RE: new proposals for AZ as the Legislative Session just began here: This particular bill is listed as

Quote:
5. SB 1054: Would make it a crime for someone w/n 20 feet of a Police Officer to knowingly videotape any law enforcement activity without the officer's explicit permission. The bill also gives officers the ability to force someone to stop recording law enforcement activity on their own property if police determine it is interfering with their work or the area is unsafe. John Kavanagh R-Fountain Hills

The thing with Arizona is that we have a whole crackpot of lunatics that vote here and vote en masse. They love this crap to the detriment of our public perception.

It will never hold up in court. Public property is just that. PUBLIC property.
You and some posters here twist the story into something else altogether. I'm sure it was intentional.
If you think you can interfere with an officer during an arrest by entering the officer's space, you are looking for big trouble. When an officer tells people to get back during a takedown, he is issuing a lawful order.

So why would any other law be needed?

Badges don't grant extra rights. That's all.

Ask the guy who sponsored the bill. The fact remains that 20' is perfectly reasonable.

Like I keep saying... Conservatives LOVE authoritarianism. They play lip service to the ideas of being against it, but give them the opportunity, and they'll legalize it.

Pandering. It's always like that with Kavanagh. He represents an area very popular with Snowbirds and Retired Folks from the Midwest amongst other places.
