Normally I don't respond to this sort of fluff, but can I ask specifically which Obama policy caused this? Or which ones were the most influential?
Or why you, presumably supporting the free market, think Obama should be getting involved in the free market, since that's called socialism (or communism, if you education was bad enough to justify such a provably incorrect argument) which is bad when it's think you don't want him involved in, like healthcare. Isn't a free market supposed to be self regulating?
I'll also ignore the job growth, since that's irrelevant because it's about Obama and we can't have intellectual consistency when we complain about Obama.
They can't help it. It's a Pavlovian response to any occurrence. Doesn't matter if there's any substance to it or not. Negative development = Obama's fault...to them. Meanwhile they brag about their majority of governors and now controlling the House and Senate. I can only assume that those Republican governors and Representatives and Senators are totally ineffective since one man stands paramount over all that happens in America. So much for the balance of power.
No stores closing in Pennsylvania, at least not yet. I know of some that are less than 7 miles from each other. Those Neighborhood markets never sounded much like a good idea.
Walmart's Neighborhood Markets are full size supermarkets. The failed Walmart Express stores were smaller supermarkets - smaller than the Neighborhood Markets. Walmart is always adapting and growing, they are opening more stores than they are closing this year.
154 of the to be shuttered stores are in the US. About 10,000 US people will lose their jobs.
They anticipate a 12% decline in earnings and cite competition, especially online competition.
I can drive to 2 Walmarts in less than 10 minutes and 6 Walmarts in 20 minutes, all non- highway driving. I suspect at least one of these stores is on the chopping block.
They over expanded in some areas.
A heck of a lot of people are ordering basics, like toilet paper off of Amazon.
Software substitution is a game changer.
And this after President Obama had just said in the SOTU that our nation's economy was doing just fine.
He shouldn't. But unfortunately he does. The pipeline is a perfect example.
"Big business" is not the only concern a president has to have. Protecting the environment -- particularly as issue as important as the Ogallala Aquifer -- probably has a longer term benefit to the mid-West and the nation than a pipeline which now seems unnecessary. Unless, of course, you just like raping the land with no concern about the long-term consequences. Of course, one-issue voters can't understand that.
With the exception of those Wal-Marts in rural or "low rent" areas that are closing and that account for employing a large portion of the local population . . . GOOD! Their employment and business practices -- and just the huge GREED of this corporation -- makes me wish that Sam Walton had limited his business to Bentonville.
The following video is very long, but for those of you who have about 90 minutes of free time with nothing better to do, the following documentary is VERY eye-opening. After watching it, I have never again set foot in a Walmart.
I don't like Walmart because they cripple local economies.
Not in my town. The two strip malls by the east side Wal-Mart are full of mom and pop type stores. Downtown adjusted to Wal-Mart by reopening closed stores with bars, restaurants and used merchandise stores.
