The company, like other big tech firms, has been criticized in recent years for being mostly male and predominantly white.
Last year, Apple CEO Tim Cook sang the praises of a diverse workforce. He said diversity is a "readily solvable issue" that can be fixed.
But Apple's board of directors opposes a new proposal to increase diversity among its board and senior management.
I guess Apple's board of directors have more sense than their CEO, Tim Cook. I'm glad they've taken a stand against pointless racial-based hiring and "minority quotas".

A company is very successful but supposedly not 'diverse' enough. Sounds like not being diverse is a key to success or at least diversity is completely unnecessary. I wonder if Samsung in S. Korea isn't 'diverse' enough since it's also successful.

Diversity quotas are for government jobs where skill doesn't matter.
And the government is not out to make a profit so they don't need the best and brightest.
Apple is in business to make money. Like any other corporation that's their foremost duty. That's not incompatibile with respecting human decency.
I'm sure unlike many corporations Apple is trying to actually address their diversity issues.
The problem is people conflating race and gender based hiring to "address diversity issues" with respect for human decency. The latter is about treating individuals fairly and has nothing to do with schemes to implement proportional representation of various groups.
