Same goes for yelling "FIRE" in public places (unless there really is one).

What are your thoughts on college professors being allowed to incite hate and or violence with their "opinion teaching".

i.e.: a Jew hating professor calling for the death of Israel, or a professor that doesn't like Muslims calling for deportation of all Muslims from the US.

Should this be protected under their 1st amendment right?

It's an issue for the courts to decide on a case by case basis.

Freedom of speech means some fools can say ridiculous things that have to be tolerated, but there are limits.

Agreed with above. Seems like you need to look at each case seperately to avoid a slippery slope that infringes on freedom of speech.

Why should calling for death and or violence be protected under free speech to be reviewed on a case by case?

If a professor shouted "death to all blacks", would there be any ambiguity? Should he/she not be fired immediately?

What actual damage or injury does the college professor do with his words in a classroom (other than potential emotional upset)?
Yelling "FIRE" in a crowded theater or "BOMB" in a crowded airport (or "GUN" for that matter) could cause panic, injuries, and even death.
THAT, IMO, is the difference!

It's called "rule of law."

In today's day and age of college kids making demands for "safe areas", making all races and nationalities feel inclusive and renaming of structures of former slave owners, wouldn't it be hypocritical to protect speech that incites hate and or violence?

Here is the prevailing Supreme Court case on this issue:

https://supreme.justia.com/cases/fed.../444/case.html

It is Brandenburg v. Ohio. Read it, and then come back and restart the discussion concerning what you learned.

I'd really love to know how a white professor shouting death to blacks or death to Muslims in his/her classroom would not lead to an immediate termination.
