the black community as the Hispanic and Asian- just can't stand the mistreatment, injustice and dislike because of just color- culture- language, etc. Sad in 2016 still exists.
The ONLY way to get respect is to EARN it, sorry. Us "Irish" had to earn it, so did the Jews as did Blacks who came here "free" from Africa and so on.
Legal Jim Crow's now gone so; it's on your "darker skin" people to use the tools the US offers compared to Africa, LatAm and Asia.

Jim crow "ended" in the 50s. Many of our (blacks) grandparents and parents were alive during that time enough so that it's still left some serious scars on the black race.
The Irish are white. I can't tell an Irish from any other white person and never understand why the are always brought up. A lot of US Jews that I've met look straight up white too. It's a lot easier to target a person when you can easily determine they are from a group you dislike. Blacks haven't done anything to get the disrespect we receive from whites, other than be BORN black.
We've never been a melting pot, we've always been a mixing bowl. And that's because many like to be able to pick out each individual ingredient to the salad.
I think you are thinking more of a salad bar......we are lacking the meat that binds it all together. People have to have similarities and common sense values to understand one another.
I have to add, however, black people are the most racist towards us than ANYONE else.
Asians, Latins, mixed people and Middle Easterners/Indians in the United States don't do it as much. They're mostly qualmless with us overall, as far as race.
