No, but I also wouldn't send rescue teams for the idiots who choose to travel when they shouldn't.
Bingo......my thoughts exactly ! You're free to do as you so choose, but you will not force me to risk my life to come and rescue you when you get stuck/stalled, have an accident or slide in the ditch !
Is this the man that is thinking about running for president? No. He is way out of line and sounds communistic. We already knew that when he started limiting the size of drinks.
But on the other hand, why would he have to say that? I haven't been out of my house since the storm began. Are people in New York really that dumb that they would not heed travel warnings? I would like to see a supreme court decision on that.
Cuomo, not Bloomberg.
Bloomberg is the very rich guy who was mayor of NYC.
Cuomo is currently governor. His father was governor too.
I have no issue with the ban. I no longer live in NYC.
Probably wouldn't have an issue if I still lived there. No one should be expected to go out in those conditions. Unfortunately, having worked for a company that did expect their employees to show up regardless, sometimes extreme measures are necessary.
And, politics.
I remember the Mayor Lindsay debacle of 1969.
How not to repeat that misstep is probably page 1 of the NY politician handbook.
In a perfect world it shouldn't be needed. People would use common sense.
But in the real world there are stupid people so the ban is needed.
Pretty much.
I have no problem with people choosing to remove themselves from the gene pool. The problem is that they too often take with them people who'd prefer to keep swimming.
when I lived in Wisconsin, snow had to be over 3 feet for people to even be worried. heck, the county would not even plow the roads for any snow under 4 inches.
that's because you guys snow is usually "powder". Get a "wet" snow and try that.........
Do you think the government should be able to ban travel to prevent accidents and expedite snow clean-up?
Local government, yes. I do believe that they should. The reason? I experienced my first blizzard when I lived in Maine. There was no way in hell I could have made it all the way home (65 miles). No. Way.
When I drove home after work the next day, it was still extremely slow going, very difficult to see, (think Star Trek when they go warp speed....that's exactly what it looked like with the snow coming at the windshield), and it took me almost 4 hours to get home...something that usually took just over an hour.
People should absolutely not be out in those conditions, and the bans are to keep the idiots home, not out testing their luck.
BUT, it has to be an actual blizzard, not just "a lot of snow".
