Or family even?

Has it already happened to you in the past?

Usually birds of feather flock together, but often there are groups of people thrown together for a variety of reasons... music, sports, fan clubs etc. who have much in common except for politics.

I was just wondering, because things are starting to get obnoxious on Facebook! lol!

For instance, there are a few people I know on there (more than just acquaintances, but not "close" friends) who are really political and "loud" about it, and it's starting to feel mob like. I've already seen the "pile on" happen to someone with a dissenting opinion, so I have deliberately avoided jumping into any conversations on FB. Also, I'm learning things about a few folks that I wish I didn't know!
(not just FB btw... I even ran into someone while visiting a friend in the hospital and he started going into a screed about something. Ug!)

Part of it too is that I'm old fashioned and grew up with the policy of NOT talking about politics and religion at a "dinner party" for instance, but okay to have one on one discussions with people I'm close to.

Anyway, this political season just feels different to me. Not just the Trump factor, but a general nastiness... more polarized.

So...do you think there will be fights at the Superbowl party?

People have always lost friends over politics, that's nothing new. I don't think this political season is any different than any other in the last 30 years.

The only thing that's even slightly new is some people letting their true selves out in a more public manner on Facebook. I'm sure everyone probably has those 'friends' who constantly post/share political memes or articles and nothing else. Fortunately they're easy to block.

If your friends are not of the same mindset as you...sure..you might lose friends if you talk about your beliefs with them!

If you have friends that are willing to break friendships over politics you're probably better off. Best not to bring up politics if you can't have a reasonable discussion, you need to know your audience

I seldom talk religion or politics with friends.

I'm a political junkie myself, but I rarely, if ever, discuss politics with friends of mine. I flat-out refuse, and I actually avoid making friends who are overly political on both sides. I use C-D to blow political steam off.

Me too.

But I think it may end up with friends shooting at each other if things keep polarizing.
