Ah. like did you really think that I needed to be informed of the meaning of the word management or was that just a blue on blue accident?
Simply underscoring your point. Sorry if you misunderstood. I want the parks and refuges and sanctuaries to be there when my grandchildren are old enough to go and understand what they mean.
I grew up deer hunting in what is now Congaree Swamp National Park. My uncle was a member of the club that leased the property from the Beidlers back then. If Congress had not bought and protected it, with help from a herculean effort by Strom Thurmond at the last minute, all 22,000+ acres of old-growth forest would today be nothing but a field of stumps. There are at least a dozen world record trees within the boundary that would never have been noticed while they were being turned into packing crates, 2x4s, and kitchen cabinets.
I lived in Oregon in 1975 when Tom McCall, the republican governor, engineered a lot of the protection of forests and unique places in the state, passing some to the Feds and protecting a lot more as state parks.
Once they have been destroyed for the profits of a few, they are gone forever, and cannot possibly be regrown or returned to their natural state, nor can any of the old trees be regrown in the lifespan of a human. It is vitally important to keep these places safe and out of the reach of marauding bands of thieving imbeciles like the Bundys and their supporters.
This is a picture of me from 2007 standing next to what was at that time the world record loblolly pine in Congaree Swamp. A larger one has since been found.
When I was eight years old (1960) I was put on my first deer stand at the base of this tree. When dawn came and I stood up to stretch, I disturbed a turkey that was roosting 50 feet above me. I don't know who scared who the worst.
At approximately 4:30 p.m. (Pacific) on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, one of the occupiers rode an ATV outside the barricades established by the militia at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. FBI agents attempted to approach the driver, and he returned to the encampment at the refuge at a high rate of speed.
At this time, the FBI has moved to contain the remaining occupiers by placing agents at barricades both immediately ahead of and behind the area where the occupiers are camping. Negotiations between the occupiers and the FBI continue. No shots have been fired.
Listening to the live stream now. Just when I thought they couldn't be any dumber they find a new low.
