Just a few miles away, the damage assessment is still underway at the Malheur Field Station, a research station run by the nonprofit Great Basin Society Inc. Duncan Evered, a co-director who fled the militia by driving without headlights over back roads that Saturday night, said the operation has lost about $20,000 through cancelled reservations and other costs.

He discovered the militia showed up last week, apparently breaking into a dining hall and dragging furniture outside to hold up targets. He said visitors stumbled upon the men, including occupation leader Ryan Payne, firing off their guns.

JJ MacNab, a Washington-based writer on anti-government movements, said several well-known anti-government figures had reportedly been heading to the refuge before the arrests on Tuesday.

"I think that a lot of people were on the way to join the group. Some of names recently shown up ... are a little bit scary. They idolise people like Timothy McVeigh," MacNab told Al Jazeera.

She said that her concern now was for the children still possibly inside and a further escalation of violence.

So far the only violence at Malheur has been perpetuated by the United States government when they murdered a man with his hands up.

They walked in unopposed. How is that "forcefully taking over a building"? You anti-gun nuts are too much, LOL!

Look at the video. He reached for a gun. His hands were down when he was shot.

You should actually watch the video. He had his hands out to the side for a moment (which is the photo that is being circulated on militia social media right now) but the frames immediately following that one show him reaching inside his coat.

He was well known to be armed at all times. He had spent the previous few weeks telling everyone that he would never be taken alive, and he had just run through not one, but two police roadblocks. The LE rightfully assumed he was armed and dangerous and acted accordingly. That's not murder. That's a justified shoot of a thug who was intent on taking out as many of them as he could before he went down. He gets no sympathy.

So you are saying that they would have peacefully walked back out if they were asked to?

They were asked to.

They brandished their weapons and refused.

That, my friend, is a forceful occupation.

The only thugs are the armed and dangerous animals and traitors with badges who murdered him.

So. The anti-gun nut rhetoric is part of the 'dog whistle' invented by the Bundyites?
