The US is actually #121 in homicides, not #1. You're thinking of Honduras.

Meant to say civilized countries relative to gun homicide.

We don't have a problem with guns, we have a problem with people.

Define "civilized", please. Hopefully your description is clear enough that I can take country "X", apply your criteria, and determine if it's suitable for comparison.

You make a good point here.

With your logic we can apply the same model to the US. We have some pretty uncivilized parts of the Country that equate to the Countries you are talking about. And yes, it's the same people either fresh here or a generation or two removed from the same Countries you are referring to.

Should we discount the "uncivilized" within our borders?

Should we skip the crimes that are stopped with a private firearm 500,000-3,500,000 times a year?

Why are we just using firearms crime, shouldn't we use violent crime in general as a metric for discussing citizen safety?

U.S. Shootings Since 1963 Have Killed More Americans Than All Wars Ever
No we do not have a problem with guns.

From your link: 33 percent of those gun deaths were homicides..., so we have a problem with criminals and crazy people who shoot other people.

From your link: Some 63 percent of those gun deaths were suicides..., so we have a problem with the mentally unstable who commit suicide.

Left out of your link were the accidental shootings, so we have a problem with gun safety.

The other problem is many of the same lib'tards who whine endlessly about guns, also whine endlessly about incarceration in the US and want to go easy on criminals and the mentally insane.

..and with all the people who die from accidents within the home, we apparently have a home problem too. We are so screwed.

60+% of the deaths are suicides. We know factually that disarming people doesn't dissuade them from killing themselves, so this 60+% is only added for shock value because without it there's no compelling argument.

Of the remaining 38-39%, it's a safe bet (based on the limited evidence) that less than 10% of those remaining deaths are by legally purchased guns, so maybe 3% of the actual gun deaths are with legally purchased guns. That's why it's so stupid to want to disarm millions over such a small risk.

The real problem is poor, urban Blacks killing each other with stolen & illegally gotten guns. We'd be better served sending anyone caught with an illegal gun to prison for life, no parole.
True enough. I'd say this study means we need hire more police officers to control gang violence and encourage more people to get help for depression. Let's cut those numbers!! Gang members get shot by other gang members far too much! Suicide prevention taught in schools would help.

South Korea and Japan also has this problem.

"Last year in Japan, more than 25,000 people took their own lives.
That's 70 every day. The vast majority were men.
Those figures do not make Japan's the highest suicide rate in the world in a developed nation.
That dubious title belongs to South Korea. But it is still far, far higher than virtually all other wealthy countries.
It is three times the suicide rate in the United Kingdom."

What drove a quiet, elderly man, to douse himself with fuel and set fire to it in a packed carriage on a speeding train?
Why does Japan have such a high suicide rate? - BBC News

Let's cut those numbers people!!!
