Oddly enough, things DO get hot in other parts of the country, but people don't suddenly start shooting each other. Which leads me to believe that maybe it isn't Chicago's weather that is driving this.
I'm not blaming the weather as to why there has been an uptick in shootings right now. In fact, I said it might have something to do with police morale and I'll add another component. My detective friend also said there is additional paperwork that is several pages long that now needs to be filled out for any stops. This may also play a role.

In the first 11 days of the year, officers filed just 3,916 investigative stop reports compared to 16,698 during the same time period last year, according to police data.
However, all you have to do is scan through Chicago's shootings and murders by month, and you will see that July and August are historically the most violent months. People are just out more when the weather is better, You don't see to many people hanging on corners when it's -10F....

A one month timeframe is too small of a slice to be statistically meaningful. Maybe March will be really low, so the year-over-year result is the same.

This is much ado about nothing IMO.
