Yep, to much emphasis put on the BMI. Many NFL linebackers would be considered obese based on the BMI.
Many health professionals believe those overweight (not morbidly) that exercises are still better off then someone skinny that does not.
So if you like to eat, it's Ok as long as your working the ticker. Now bones and joints, that could be a different story.

Talking to an orthopedic surgeon recently, who had a lot of experience in knees, hips etc. He said that the majority of patient's replacements were to those who were healthy and active, not overweight sedentary people.

I believe that. Life longer runners/joggers will almost certainly need knee replacement at some point in life.

It's misleading. 1/2 of all those overweight were unhealthy, compared with only 1/3 of those with normal weight. That's a substantial difference.

Have you noticed that most football players don't live long, healthy lives? Most continue to eat heavily after their exploits on the field are over (they also tend to exercise less). Obesity is without question unhealthy. Are there exceptions? Absolutely but carrying an extra 50-100 lbs is bad for you on many levels.

But what would a cardiologist or an oncologist have to say?

Smoking explains some of the paradox. Hispanics do not smoke nearly as much as non Hispanics. When smokers are removed from the study groups, the gap between whites and Hispanics narrows.

Being overweight is a health risk, period. To say otherwise is foolish. That's like saying smoking has no health risks. Hog wash.
Absolutely true. Obesity is a big problem for many Americans. We must do something about being overweight.

No Thanks .
My cousin died when 7 firemen could not carry her obese rear down a flight of stairs. Oversize caskets cost extra!
