When it gets to this point, even Hollywood's socialist Venezuela's leg humpers can't put a good spin on this:

"......In 2013, many began to suspect that the outlook for Venezuela was grim when prepping became illegal. The Attorney General of Venezuela, Luisa Ortega Díaz, called on prosecutors to target people who are "hoarding" basic staples with serious sanctions.

Shortly thereafter, grocery stores instituted a fingerprint registry to purchase food and supplies. Families had to register and were allotted a certain amount of supplies to prevent "hoarding........"

Liberals would rather everyone be equally poor than most people be prosperous.

What nonsense. Liberals are not about perfect equality, in fact I have never met one that was. Many ARE against extreme inequality. Many of us because we saw what resulted in Venezuela as a result. What? did you think Chavez got elected in a vacumn?

Some propaganda from the other side of the argument. And its mostly false. Just like most of this thread is mostly false too.

Bottom line for those too lazy to research, and who do not know anyone from there. Venezuela has some issues, they're not going to collapse, or starve, the lines are not as bad as depicted. Really whats hosing them the worst is oil prices. But of course posters here want to make it about socialism. Because they somehow think the left is all about that, and they can't comprehend the difference between socialism, and democratic socialists for example.

Has Socialism affected them? Somewhat. But its certainly not the primary cause. Oddly enough its also done some pretty good things for them as well. Tradeoffs. Some obviously good things, and some obviously dumb things. While Chavez was good at handling them, his successor obviously is not. And thats not a surprise really.

If Bernie wins over Hillary, the capitalism-loving Republicans will be uploading photo after photo of Venezuela at its worst.

And how will Bernie respond? Uploading photo after photo of the many 3rd world areas of the U.S. today untouched by capitalism!

It took less than 20 years for socialists to destroy a prosperous country.

Actually it took less then 20 years for extreme inequality to sow the seeds of its destruction.

I say this pretty regularly on this topic, this is EXACTLY why we should fear extreme inequality, it leads to political elections for extremists that make ol trump and sanders look reasonable.

Perhaps some need to visit or get to know people from there. Though it has been a while since I was there, I did see the beginnings of Chavez's socialist downward spiral he was leading the country into. Thank God he died but the moronic bus driver is just continuing on with the same problems. Truly a beautiful country with great potential but led by egotistical idiots who make all sorts of promises but don't accomplish anything but destroying a country.

There is and should be more to that country then oil so the price of oil has nothing to do with Venezuela's downward spiral. Nothing. If so why was it better off when oil was cheap in the past? Again, nothing to do with oil. If even the slightest it's because the morons in charge know nothing about economics and how to run a country because there is much more to Venezuela then oil. Why don't hey look to their neighbor instead of hating on them. Their neighbor went from one of the most dangerous country's in the world to a developing country with a building tourism and manufacturing industry. In that same time frame, Venezuela went from a decent and safe place to a dangerous sh!%hole!

A fine example as to what happens when people run out of money for the government to take and give to others. Unfortunately, that part of the world has a lot of poor and typical pay isn't very much. So many have to try to work early and they leave school at an early age or don't continue on to what would be our high school equivilant because they don't have money. Take a large, uneducated group and then a powerful talker (BS'r in truth) with a bunch of empty promises to the masses and they will believe him as they don't know better otherwise. Then you get a "president" (dictator) who is out for power and money for HIMSELF. Hard to believe some who are educated don't see that.
