My Aunt is always talking about how terrible the world is. She is just so upset with the news on TV talking about war, death, disease and mass killings. Anytime someone dies, even if they are 100 years old, she is so upset. But really isn't it just part of the human experience? Basically God's way of thinning the herd so there is not too many deer (people) in the forest?
I tried to tell my Aunt that the population on earth is twice what it was when she was born and growing incredibly fast, especially in third world countries where most of the suffering is happening. The death is shocking but if the population in a place like Africa triples in the next thirty years, there will be mass starvation and war that we can't even imagine.
Maybe some will die today to save humanity tomorrow.
I think it's important to look at this issue, but it can be dangerous as well. I know for a fact that there are people in positions of power who specifically want to start wars to kill off some of the population and make it more manageable. It's kind of a mindset that people are akin to livestock that need to be controlled.
I think the important thing is to remember that every human has inalienable rights and their lives shouldn't be taken lightly. I think that trying to have any central plan to control population is wrong, and we should focus on prevention, if anything.
In the end, nature tends to balance things out...I think overpopulation is often used as a scare tactic as well, so I'd be cautious of that being used against you. It's a known fact that fear and despair can be used to control people.
Tell that to Russia which lost about one quarter of it's population in WW2. The herd was thinned drastically and now there is plenty of room in the empty country.
It is a dog eat dog world out there and I wear milk-bone underwear daily.
How old is that line? Seems like decades since I have heard that.
