And who's 'brilliant' idea was this to have a slave auction skit? Surely no one is that stupid in this internet day and age?

Let the outrage commence. Lets see who can be most offended.

The skit won the contest LMAO.

The SJWs probably had heart attacks when that happened.

lmao! The ancient Romans enslaved white people, not black Africans.

i guess someone "educated" in a liberal-run public school wouldn't know that though.

LOL... Obama's old neighborhood.

Notice how no explanation is made of the intention of the skit or why people are "outraged" about it. The kids there were in clubs learning about ancient Rome, so we can only assume that the people complaining don't realize slavery was a big part of that culture... or maybe they think black people own the rights to slave dramas and whites aren't ever allowed do them? Will showings of movies like Spartacus and the Gladiator be banned now?

I guess it's understandable that some of those parents don't know anything about the history of slavery. But there is no excuse for the school officials who forced the kids to apologize for no reason and are too timid to defend the perfectly reasonable idea of having a slave auction skit at an event about ancient Rome.

Yup, slave auctions were an annual event when I was in high school during the early sixties. They were fundraisers for the student body association. We only had two black kids, and they participated, dunno how they really felt about it. You had to have good grades to volunteer to be "sold", as a common slave task was carrying your "owner's" books, so you'd be leaving classes early and arriving late. Being required to dress funny (but still within the school's dress code) was also usual.

AFAIK, no students or patents were upset by this, but some teachers muttered darkly about it. Looking back on it, I think it was not a great thing to do, but eh.

That news story gives little detail, so it's hard to tell what was actually involved here or what the purpose was.

I'm sure they thought the auction was real.

Didn't the highly acclaimed movie 'Root's portray a slave auction?

Why would that be bad if it relives black history that so many do not want to be forgotten????
