But if so... where do I go from here? Certainly not back to the Republicans. Maybe I can finally learn the.

Sanders' economic plan is nothing short of psychotic and destructive. The fallout from Obama's ACA lunacy has NOTHING on what will happen if by some fluke Sanders gets elected.

Of course, the other options (Trump - bankruptcy, Clinton - clueless) aren't exactly enticing either.

Back when I was a mass-murderer living in a back alley, I was a Democrat. But after my 12th PhD and 3rd flight to the Space Station, I realized I belonged in the Republican Party.

Mr Thorpe's views have already been argued on this forum, and he is incorrect.

This article is from [i]The Economist[i], shouldn't they at least have their act together w/out having to cite some professor whose views have been refuted and proven slanted?Rehash!

What an insult to college students. Sure some are there for the wrong reasons, but higher ed or trade school is where you have to be in order to earn a living, be productive. High school diplomas aren't enough anymore.

Why is it some people don't get this?

I'm fine with that. Europeans have a higher standard of living than we do, better health, work fewer hours. All thanks to the same sort of Democratic Socialism that Sanders offers.

Younger people in this country know that it's a better system. And unlike those of us who grew up during the Cold War, they haven't been indoctrinated to believe that socialism of any sort if evil. So while I don't expect Bernie to usher in this new system, it WILL happen. Don't like that? Feel free to move to the Free Market Paradise of Somalia.

It's just the usual anti-intellectualism that much of the GOP base thrives on these days.

Wasn't always this way... but the GOP's 'southern strategy' brought these kinds of folks into the party. And now the GOP's attack-dog is turning on them.

I have been thinking about what political name I should use. I have come up with a Libertarian Liberal Capitalist.

The Libertarian part supports the individual right to any religion or none at all. I believe the individual has the right to say what they want when the want to say it. My idea of gun control is to select a legitimate target and hit it with the first shot. I also believe all drugs should be available for those that want to use or abuse them.

The Liberal (Puritan Yankee) part believes government can be a help people create a better place for all to succeed by having the community provide good civil works, education and health care for all that want or need it. I am also willing to support the mentally unfortunate, the lame and the insane. The Liberal part is also willing but not eager to go to war against evils like the German 3rd Reich but not to protect investors in Arabia.

The Capitalist part firmly believes that Capitalism featuring open and free markets is the best way of creating wealth for all. This Capitalist is completely opposed to cronyism, monopoly and government protection of industries, banks and financial businesses. They, as Capitalism insists, must have the threat of failure to keep them honest. Among many things I believe Federal grazing land should be rented at the same prices as private land. The contrived Gasohol program should be allowed to die of its own inefficiency. No bank or business is "too big to fail" ever.

To summarize I believe in a society of free people that join together to create a Capitalist economy where people can live as well as they can free of monopolies and collusion between business and government. Government should own and operated the natural monopolies like Electric Utilities, water works, passenger rail and similar.

BTW - This ain't easy.

Currently I support Senator Sanders but will Vote for Secretary Clinton if, as is most likely, nominated. I will NOT vote for the Braggart, the Religious bigot or the spoiled brat the Republicans are offering.

Agreed. Which is one reason why I've worked hard to get into Corporate America. Might as well benefit from our corrupt system. And lemme tell you it's a huge improvement over the small/midsize businesses I worked for earlier in my career. A night and day difference in terms of workload and compensation.

I highly recommend the corporate world- the larger the company the better- for those who can get into it.

Today I am a Democrat.

And you actually think that the Democrats are better?

Sanders knows that we as a country waste huge amounts of money on expenditures that only benefit a small group of people/companies

Bernie will simply re-balance the three largest slices of this pie. No rocket science there.

Have you been reading my Facebook feed? Sounds like a rubber stamp statement of every leftist FB "friend" I have... including this...

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ir77GV5F4G...25846395_l.png

Kinda feels good now to look down one's noses at those "knuckle draggers" eh?

But I tease...

I'm a mixed bag myself. I've voted Republican the past decade and now I'm confronted with the fact that I would have to vote for a Clinton again if I really feared Trump. I've gone back and forth on that one. Just last week I concluded there's NO WAY I could vote for Hillary because my Hillary hate goes waaaaay back! However, the GOP "dong show" debate happened the other day and I came to the conclusion Trump is probably mentally ill. Maybe all politicians are mental. 'Cept for Bernie. He seems sincere, his policies may be insane, but there's no doubt he's authentic.

BTW, my son is totally into Bernie... he's in college and driving for Uber and told me he just talked to a life long Republican who is now supporting Bernie. So it does indeed happen! I believe you!
