Thanks for the link - I'd like to hear what he has to say.
Tim Clemente was a counterterrorism agent for the FBI and said that every digital communication is recorded and stored by the FBI. Every email, phone call, chat session and text message. So between those and the records from the phone company, they had what they wanted all along.
They are most likely looking for other things that weren't transmitted like notes and other things saved on the SSD itself.

We've been saying they could do it all along. Why the change of heart now?
Maybe they thought they'd already spent enough time making themselves look incompetent?

Very interesting - thanks for the link. I'm not surprised that it's an Israeli firm. They seem to have more advanced technology than we do.
A friend sent this to me yesterday and it better explains why they want the phone - and DBones, you were correct. Apparently there are 19 minutes after the attack that they would like the gps information on to see where these two were. The statement about that starts at the 8 minute mark:
I do like Comey and get where he's just trying to do his job, but I'm still concerned about the larger implication with regard to hacking and setting global precedents.

The DOJ asked the court to postpone until April 5th to give them time to see if they could get into the phone. Congress resumes on April 12th, so that only puts them a week out from their self-imposed deadline.
