if suzie is earning less than joe, then she is not working the overtime joe is.
why do you assume that only men work more hours? why do I keep seeing this repeated, as if it were some kind of fact?

Let's say that a company is looking for an IT specialist. They interview a woman for the position and make her an offer of $100,000 per year. She accepts the offer.

Now, a month later, another position opens up and they decide to hire another IT specialist. They interview a man for the position and make him an offer of $100,000. He counters with an offer of $110,000. The company counters with an offer of $105,000. He agrees to take the job for $105,000.

What is the problem here? Should we outlaw negotiation?
Not at all. But when evidence points to it tipping the scales for men most of the time, for the same work. that is a problem for women.

"The women's team does the identical work as the men's team, except they have outperformed in every way," said Jeffrey Kessler, a lawyer who represents the women. "The U.S. Soccer Federation made a profit of $16 million on the women's team last year. It had a loss on men's team."

"The women's team won the World Cup last year and is among the favorites for the Olympics this summer. Its World Cup championship match scored the best U.S. rating ever of any soccer game -- men's or women's. It also drew more viewers than some other top-flight men's sporting events such as the World Series and NBA finals."

"The complaint lays out some compelling numbers. Men earn as much as $17,625 for an exhibition match against a top opponent, according to the court document, and get no less than $5,000 even if the team loses.
But women are paid a maximum of $4,950 even if they win every game. And they're only paid for the first 20 exhibition games they play each year -- they aren't paid anything for any games beyond that. Men get paid for each game, no matter how many exhibition games they play."
And the men's team earned $9 million in the 2014 World Cup for losing in the round of 16, while the women made $2 million when they won the 2015 championship.
They made money because they won. Once you do that then you get paid more money. Also if you have to resort to international sporting events like this you don't have a strong point.

It's not as weak as saying Ethiopian women are treated better than U.S. women but...........

once again you FAIL at reading comprehension. i said men are more likely to work overtime, not that only men work overtime. the problem with articles like the one you linked to is that they only look at just the raw data, and dont delve deeper and find out why the numbers are skewed, thus you get a biased version of what the data means.

Pure gibberish!!!! many work 2 jobs-- single moms working 2 jobs and go to school --OT is for all...people need to realize how many single moms doing this to bring in more money?
Some men need to get out of the farm or the backwoods more- still in 1800's mentality -or are abusive control freaks with some old ideology up their noses- they can't see clearly anymore. One reason a woman president do us all good- I do not agree with all of the politics - but a female on top be great

your argument fails in logic. Sorry, you completely missed the point.

if you're asserting your opinion that men work more hours than women, it's completely irrelevant to this discussion.

It is a fact, men generally work more hours a week than women.

In 2000, 19% of men worked 50 hours or more per week, compared to 7% of women. The researchers suggested that women are less likely both to enter a job that demands overworking and to stay in it
