Muslim family kicked off flight demands apology from United Airlines - Chicago Tribune

Quote:
The family's removal came after they requested an additional strap for their youngest daughter's booster seat, according to Ahmed Rehab, executive director of Chicago's Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Rehab said the family was ordered to exit the plane for security reasons. When the mother and father repeatedly asked the flight crew why they were being removed, they were told to exit "peacefully," return to the gate and await further instructions, Rehab said.

United Airlines said in a statement that the family was removed from a Sky West flight, operating as United Express from Chicago, "because of concerns about their child's safety seat, which did not comply with federal safety regulations."
I know this family won't get much sympathy on this forum, but it must be pointed out that, contrary to the later statement by United, the attendant as well as the pilot mentioned nothing about a child's safety seat.

Child Safety

Did their booster seat fit the requirements?

Doesn't explain why they were re-booked on another flight....if they used the same booster seat for the same kid.

The story gives very little details. How did the pilot gert involved? What's the flight attendants version of the incident, etc....

The FAA prohibits the use of booster seats for taxi, takeoff, and landing. So they weren't supposed to be using it. The flight attendant should have, or maybe did, asked them to stow it. And I have never heard of a strap for a booster seat on an airplane. I'm an ex airline pilot.

Well I dunno, the poindexter kid looks like a master bomb maker to me. And the twin girls, they could send one in as a suicide bomber and still have a spare to sell.

And pops is clearly a threat to humanity. Everyone knows ISIS leaders wear bow ties.

As for the booster seat - like it's going to matter if they crash. Actually it's probably the safest place to be. LOL

Something tells me there's more to this story. Were they thrown off for nefarious reasons, or had they previously refused instructions to stow/check the booster seat? I'd love to hear from an impartial eye witness.

(Unfortunately in my mind) I've seen groups of middle easterners in full body and face uniforms going through airports and boarding flights with no problem. I was flying from JFK in NYC three days after Brussels, and the placed looked more like Yemen than America, yet no one had any issues. I flew out of la guardia just last evening, and every worker at auntie Annie's were wearing head gear like the lady in the picture - so I'm having a very difficult time believing the people in this story just happened to be singled out for no reason.

I guess you have never been the subject of "profiling". I an a non-Arab American, born and raised in the US. I've been married for 27 years to an Arab-American and took his family name. We are expats and have had residency in Dubai for many years. We know about profiling.

Each year I return home, which is the US. I arrive in JFK and every year going through immigration I was greeted by agents with "Welcome Home" and never, ever questioned. On my trip last year when clearing immigration, I was asked by the agent: What is the purpose of your visit? What?? I'm "visiting" my home country!?!? I pay a huge sum in Federal taxes to a country that I "visit" and I'm a senior citizen that holds one passport - that of the US. I was asked what I would be doing while in the US. Rather than get irritated and make a stink and say what I wanted to say, I went along with her "interrogation" and told her that I was going to a wedding and spend time with my family. She asked if I had bought a gift for the wedding and was it in my luggage? After a few more obnoxious questions she "allowed" me to enter my home country.

I had to wonder if every expat that returns home to the US is questioned as I was. Do expats who live in other countries get questioned when returning home? Or did this have something to do with where I reside and my last name? I'm sure that was the reason, or maybe she just woke up on the wrong side of her cage?

I'm sure I was "profiled" because of where I reside and my family name because there was no need for me to be interrogated.

Really?? Muslims are stopped from boarding airplanes when there is some idiot on the same flight suffering from Islamophobia complains.

Southwest Airlines Is Allowing Its Racist Passengers To Kick Muslim Passengers off Their Flights [Updated]

"Two men, 29-year-old Maher Khalil and 28-year-old Anas Ayyad, who both moved to Philadelphia 15 years ago from Palestine, were speaking Arabic before their flight in the terminal this week.................another passenger on their flight approached the gate agent, demanding they be removed from the flight. The agent acquiesced, telling the pair that they wouldn’t be allowed to board because a passenger was afraid to fly with them."

another incident:

"Passengers on a second Southwest flight from Chicago to Houston Wednesday refused to allow six Muslims on the flight, causing the Muslim passengers to have to be rebooked on another flight."

(Quote feature not working)

Apparently non-Muslim/non-Arab suffering from Islamophobia have quite a say in who can travel on the same plane as them.
