Any chance Russia will get involved? Both were previously part of USSR I believe.

Seeing that Russia is selling arms to both, I'd say they are involved.

It gives them the power to control the outcome. I don't think war at their southern border is in their self interest.

Could this drive a wedge between Russia and Iran? Azerbaijan is close to Iran and has cultural and religious ties to it. It's Shia and was part of the Persian empire.

(Once some of the less informed C-D posters find out that Azerbaijan's Muslim, we know what side they'll take!)

They are largely Shia but are highly secularized.
This has been an on going conflict since the collapse of the Soviet Union. If there's a Russian angle here it would be a proxy fight between them and Turkey since Turkey is closely aligned with Azerbaijan. Ironically, Russia is in a security pact with Armenia but is the primary arms dealer to the Azaris.

I couldn't care less what religion if any either country follows, I'll take the side of 'ain't none of our damn business'.

Not our countries, not our problem. Let's sell them some guns and sit back with some popcorn and enjoy the show.

I often disagree with you. I don't here.

As an aside, we have a couple of really good Azerbaijani and Armenian restaurants in town. This thread made me hungry.

And we should take no part.
