I think it's stupid at best since there's a LOT of "racism" IN the "Black" world and, if especially a dude's too "white", he probably won't be accepted by people who actually look "Black".
"Black" can be more about "culture" than color or race. At least in past times, on the birth certificates, the child was listed as the "race" of the father. I have no idea why the mother was "minimized" in that way.
As a kid, I remember having an odd fascination with the curiously white-looking elderly people at church asking "Is so-and-so actually black?" I thought it was ridiculous.
There are people that look like billy bob thorton, who come from whole families of similarly white-looking "blacks."

I hope I am phrasing this well: As probably posters don't know the history of Mr. Newman and his family (I am related to the Newmans by blood.), perhaps judgement should be reserved. We have a long history of descendency from Native American, European and African/African-American peoples. It is more complicated than one might think. Mr. Newman may identify as he wishes. Thank you.
Rock Newman has called himself a black man all of his life without any issues. The black community has always seen him as black. And our opinion is the only one that matters.
