Yeah, I've been on six different trips in most of the country including Napoli and my wife is part-Italian. You can get pizza by the slice served in square pieces in different styles like pizza bianca or pizza rossa at cheap to go places in Italy(also usually served cold) and it's different than a place where you're sitting down to get a pizza pie straight out the oven in the classic Neapolitan style. You always cut the pizza yourself with a knife and fork when you're sitting down to eat a pizza pie in Italy, it's never brought out already cut into slices at a respectable traditional establishment. You can then eat with a fork or pick up the pizza folded, since it's too hot and thin to eat by just picking up as you would a thicker, crustier slice of American pizza.
If you go to the original places that invented pizza margherita in Napoli you'll always be given a knife and fork and cut up the pizza yourself, most diners will eat it with a fork also.
