Both my boyfriend and I are very liberal. We live in a deep blue state, so it doesn't matter who we vote for.
We've been planning to move to a state that actually counts our votes. There are, I think, a dozen states or so that are swing states. These states swing back and forth from time to time.
Sometimes, don't you wish you live in a swing state so that your vote actually counts for something? Because we still have the electoral college, deep blue and deep red states sort of defeat the purpose of a democratic system.

Never, I suppose. But in a swing state, 2 votes actually contribute to something rather than nothing. There's a chance if there's enough votes in a certain direction then the outcome could change.
In a deep blue or deep red state, there's no possibility of change. Even if back in 08 Obama declared himself the anti-christ, Illinois would still have voted for him. And if Trump declares that Hitler is his hero, Alabama would still vote for him. There's no possibility of change at all for the deep blue or deep red states.
I'm a libertarian in a swing state so you'd think both parties would try to court my vote. They don't. They both pander to the base and both have gone to extremists agendas.
I've voted for both parties, well actually neither party, but rather for candidates in both. The most informed voters mostly live in swing states and districts and have elected officials and politicians in either party or other.

I'm an Independent in PA-frozen out as well. But it's not difficult to switch-I registered for the Republican party for the first time ever in 2012 in order to vote for Ron Paul in the primaries. This year I switched from Independent to Democrat in order to vote for Bernie Sanders.

I do admit that I feel more of a duty to vote since I moved to a swing state.
No, I'm very very happy to live in a blue state. I do not want to see constant ads while they battle each other. There is something comforting knowing how unwelcome certain presidential candidates would feel in my area. Maybe we need a fence.

I hear you. This year is interesting though. I will change my party affiliation to Democrat, so that i can vote for bernie sanders here in California. ( i think Hillary clinton is about one of the most corrupt politician) At least I need to make an effort. Not saying I will be voting for Bernie in General election, I will go with third party most likely.
