You are right and that was my point. And everybody should understand it. When labor costs increase, decreases elsewhere will be necessary to balance it.
The news article doesn't add anything to the thread (for me, hence my statement). If it specifically identified the individuals who were laid off as being minimum wage workers, then it would be meaningful (to me) because then it would have shown the direct connection between cause and effect.

Why are they down revenue? I mean there are Dems in Ca now for more than a few years. So why dont they fund universities more. When CA was run be Republicans it cost like $3k in tuition to go to a UC. Strange, isn't it?
There are all these well paying tech jobs pushing rent up to $3400 a month in SF. So where's the money going? You'd think college would be free by now with all that cash rolling in.
I've always said, if helping the poor was as easy as raising the minimum wage, why not raise the min wage to $100,000 a year. Then everyone would be rich in a liberal utopia. Poverty would be eliminated. That's a question most liberals don't understand how to answer because they don't understand economics.
Looked like from the protestors that all the people let go were black...UC Berkeley is so racist. They should have fired the white male science and engineering professors, then hired those cooks and Janitors to teach for the sake of diversity.

Would dropping minimum wage to 1/10th of a cent = conservative utopia?
Alabama, Florida and Mississippi... Real powerhouse economies there...
Hmm, professors there were probably among those calling for the raise in minimum wage. Why didn't they do the proper liberal socialist thing and demand the university cut their salaries to help with the school budget as well as to show solidarity with those struggling to earn a living wage? To be really fair they should cut the salary of the dean as well as the sports coaches.
As for the university's budget problems, perhaps they should cut out some of the courses and professors that aren't necessary for a traditional university education. Budget the university's spending based upon the money you have, not the money you wish you had. Ask for students and faculty to submit cost cutting ideas. I find those in the highest level of a business usually have no clue what goes on in the daily grind and thus have no idea how to cut cost and increase efficiency at the lower levels. They seem to look at big instant cost savings like cutting labor or benefits when a bunch of small easy cuts at each level adds up to a big savings as well as increased efficiency.

Is it not possible that a business may decide to eliminate a non minimum wage job to save two or three minimum wage jobs? It may make more business sense to them?
15.00/hr. buys a lot of rims and car audio and Monster and straight hair wigs and mylar Tweety Bird balloons.
If they can get hired now.
And in Berkeley, $15 an hour buys a bedroom in an apartment with 5 roommates. It doesn't even stretch to renting a studio.
