Many democracies throughout history have become dictatorships and have done so legally. Hitler came to power legally and became a dictator through the Enabling Act. Napoleon was elected in a similar manner and became a dictator. Rome transitioned from Republic to Empire. More recently, Putin has managed to stay in power as long as he has by exploiting loopholes in the Russian constitution. There are lots of theories out there regarding democracies and how they always slowly transitioned to dictatorships over time.
With that said, our founding fathers were geniuses and implemented checks and balances into the Constitution to safeguard against that happening. However, are there any loopholes that would technically make a dictatorship in the U.S. possible? Kurt Godel, scientist from the first half of the 20th Century supposedly discovered something but I don't believe he ever released his findings.
Theoretically, it's possible to amend the Constitution abolishing the Bill of Rights, suspending Democratic elections, and extending the current President's term indefinitely, but it would take 2/3 of both houses of Congress and 2/3 of state legislatures to agree to it which would never, ever happen. Short of that, is there any possible way a dictatorship could legally happen in America?
Nothing Obama has done has been anywhere even in the remotely same realm as a dictatorship. He got elected. Twice. ACA passed through Congress by standard legal means. Executive orders are fewer than they were under Reagan OR Bush Sr.
Private property has not been abolished. Guns have not been confiscated. Martial law has not been declared.

Any talk of Obama being a dictator is hyperbole, just like it was when liberals did it under Bush. If a real dictator ever comes to power in this country i.e. a dictator who suspends free speech/religion, confiscates all firearms, implements restrictive social policies, deploys a national police force answerable only to him, etc, people will be begging to have Obama back.
