'And I thought we survived the recession (after bailing out the bankers and piling trillions of debt upon the American taxpayer)...

'If nobody is working in one out of every five U.S. families, then how in the world can the unemployment rate be close to 5 percent as the Obama administration keeps insisting?'

The un-employment rate is only calculated by those receiving un-employment benefits, once you stop receiving those benefits, you are no longer counted in the un-employment statics. Weather you have a job or not.

Can we also remember that the whole gig and freelance economy is not being counted in the employment data. That's millions of people not being counted who are earning the equivalent of full time wages.

The source is circumspect IMO.

I am black and no one in my close family, nor can I think of anyone in my extended family who lives in a household where no one has a job other than retired people or those on disability.

If someone has no job at all and don't have some sort of disability (and FWIW, I have a few relatives who are legally disabled who actually do work!) or they are not retired, then they are just lazy and don't want to work.

FWIW, it is odd to me that in todays day and age it is primarily conservatives who are "taking up" for lazy people who don't work lol. It is like the world has done a 180. There are plenty of jobs out there. I live in an area where people are constantly complaining about how there are "no jobs." I have a job. My husband has a job. My mom is legally disabled, she has a full time job and doesn't collect disability (she doesn't like to be bored at home). My dad works. I have 3 brothers, all of them work. Their wives/girlfriends work. I have a 18 year old nephew who has 2 jobs (and he's a full time college studen)! LOL. It is crazy that people are still trying to make excuses for people who don't work.
