In times of stress rabbits produce less offspring.
Equating Mexicans with rabbits?

The Muslim birth rate is one of the highest in the world. That is why it is estimated that Europe will have a Muslim majority in 30 years. US may follow in 50 years. Lots of guesses as to why but no one is sure.

To be fair: many "Muslims" in the US may walk away from that religion 1st or at least their kids will. Too; I DO think there WILL be a crackdown on Muslim immigration, it's starting to happen in Europe now.

Oh I agree. Many of the kids will walk away from that just like they walk away from Christianity. But will that slow the birth rate? Only time will tell.

A few things off the top of my head....

- The bible's message on "be fruitful and multiply..." is falling on deaf ears. People have wised up...

- People realize there are too many people in the world and it is time to ratchet back...

- It takes a lot of money to raise a good kid these days...

- People are too busy tweeting and posting on Facebook to be making babies...

Birth rates have been declining in most of the world for decades. The big news in recent years is that the expected decline of Africa's sky high rates is not really happening so, contrary to all predictions 20 years ago, world population will not stabalize at around 9 billion by mid century but will continue to rise, with the African continent alone home to 4 billion by 2100.

That's exactly the problem I see. You have one continent, and by now it's isolated to one continent only, that's producing at a run away rate while the rest of the world is stabilized or dropping in population. This is going to create tons of problems, migrant crisises again and again, because per capita Africa's not going to be advancing very much while the rest of the world grows wealthier.

I think declining birth rates are an issue. 1.8-2.5 is probably ok, but when you have numbers like 1.3 or 1.4, like some of Europe or Asia, that's an issue. Population declines downwards just as fast as it does upwards.

The problem that keeps arising is how do you get smart, successful, financially able, and loving potential parents to make babies while preventing potentially crappy parents from making them? There isn't a good answer to this problem though I desperately wish there was one.

If talking Africa: that place is pretty easy to close off between oceans, seas and the Sahara desert. Too; in more and more Africa countries, word is the birthrate IS dropping and, dropping FAST.

Humans aren't rabbits.

It's a well-known phenomenon called the demographic transition. As a population becomes more industrialized and urban, both death and birth rates go down. It's a result of multiple changes, but one of the drivers is changes in women's status, including increased literacy and increased economic agency.

It is already happening in non-arabic muslim countries. And those countries won't be able to stop it either, no matter how hard they try.

What is the reason for the declining Birth rates? Where as Africa is having out of control Birth rates? Lack of birth control pills in Africa or abortion?
