We can't make Mexico pay for it, especially if it's on our side of the border. We could place military bases along the border. That said, what parts of the border?

You do realize that Pershing's Mexican Punitive Expedition was a failure right? They failed to capture Pancho Villa and were stopped by the Mexican Constitutionalist army.

Plenty of ways illegals get here, not just Mexico. Our waters are another way
Canadians cross the border at Niagara Falls or Buffalo or Plattsburgh or hundreds of other land/bridge crossings to spend a week-end or even just to go shopping ... and they never go back.
Canada might actually be worth invading. But there would be no advantage at all in owning Mexico, even if the Mexicans gave it up willingly. One Puerto Rico is enough.
Uh; leave Canada alone. Word is them being their own country is good for BOTH Canada AND the US. Tho IF Quebec walked away; the rest of Canada would probably ask to join the US real quick.

There are ways to make Mexico help pay for it. Read Trump's site. Congress has already passed a bill to put up a double wall along 700 miles of our most porous areas of our southern border but it wasn't funded. Fund that and then we'll be talking.
Haaar! The Chinese would love that and so would Russia among many others...shipping arms to south America for transport to Mexican fighters would be the salvation of both their economies. Think of the electric bicycles they could use to bring munitions up the Pancho Villa trail.
Vietnam would look like a walk in the park by comparison and there'd be no South China sea to dump all those Huey's into while you're once again beating feet out of a mess of your own making. You'd just end up leaving them all piled up in Texas and Arizona for the rebels to use ala ISIS and American Humvees.

Yeah, but if they resist when we dump off the millions of illegals,
then we're going to have to force them to take them.
Maybe we can work something out with non-Mexicans by boats,
use some of the old Navy ships to cart them off, but the Mexicans
are going to have to be herded over by land.

Mexico's military would be helpless against ours and; even IF that country tried "Viet Cong" style warfare, it'd probably be "shoot on sight".
Too: poor Mexico NEEDS to get its drug wars stopped; word is MORE Mexicans have been killed by their own kind than we lost in the Vietnam War 50 years ago.
I see the issue from a money and geography perspective.If the border with Mexico gets closed, illegals could try the Gulf of Mexico. They are already doing that now.
I live in the Atlanta area, and this is one of the top places for human trafficking. Who knows how many illegals get smuggled in. Miami is a 9-10 hour drive from Atlanta if you take I-75.
The money. It costs alot of money to build that wall. You can save tax dollars by cutting off any benefits to illegals. Heavily fining businesses to the point where it costs more to hire them than hiring those who are here legally.
I agree that going after the businesses who hire illegals, denying illegals any benefits and denying their kids birthright citizenship will cut back economic opportunity seekers but criminals and terrorists aren't coming here for those reasons, thus the wall.
