I don't know what to say. Because there seems to be some sort of psychosis going on, where people don't recognize that political parties shift and evolve over time.
This is grand. This coming from a supporter of the party that screams bloody murder at the Confederate Flag and wants to remove people's faces from money where there is a rumor they owned slaves.

Just stop, you are embarrassing yourself.

You can go back 150 years and find the Republicans with the same basic values. Accountability and fair treatment for all but NO SPECIAL treatment for anyone.

They don't pander for votes. In fact, they have many times in their history took stands that cost them elections.

So who do you respect and trust more?
The point is that the Republican Party has reflected the Republican demographic and what that demographic thinks is right for this nation. The GOP hasn't been stagnant and unchanging. It's changed, and so have the values it pushes for. Their politicians do pander for votes.

Can't actually respond to my post, so you decide to attack my credibility. I don't think I'm the one embarrassing myself.

Both parties have their skeletons in the closet. While people are pointing out Democrats up to the 1960s, no one is pointing this out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lily-white_movement

The Lily White Movement of the late 19th/early 20th century, Republicans who trying to kick Blacks out of politics. William H. Taft, Republican President from 1909-1913, he sought to appeal to the South by excluding Blacks. Herbert C. Hoover, Republican President, 1928-1932, he sought to appeal to the South. He broke all alliances he had with Black leaders.

Both parties have a history of doing bad things to Blacks. So the question is, is either party really any good?

The parties aren't separate from the people.

Political parties are made up of people. People who have come together to advance a particular agenda. They represent their membership.

When a political party did bad things, it's because PEOPLE in this country wanted to do bad things, and wanted to use the political system to enable those bad things. And when those bad things got reversed, it was because PEOPLE in this country wanted the bad things to be stopped.

The political parties are vehicles that enable PEOPLE to take actions that are validated and enforced by the government.

The contest today isn't between the Democratic Party and the Republican Party, it's between the PEOPLE of this nation, and the future they envision and the future they want.

It was a democratic president who did the heavy lifting to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964 - and took a lot of grief for doing so.

Good ol' LBJ.

"Pass this bill and we'll have the n****rs voting for us for the next 200 years"

What a guy.

Because the civil rights act was not needed. Things were already changing and the Republicans knew the best way was for it to continue evolving after 100 years of Democratic racism and obstruction.

except for one thing, it's not at all clear that he actually said that:

It was needed. Things were not changing fast enough, and in many places, people were trying to go against treating everyone as citizens of this country. Anyone who thinks the Civil Rights Act wasn't needed either has no sense of history, or is just being nutty.

Change needed to happen immediately, at ALL costs. Dr. King said that if you haven't found a reason for dying, you haven't found a reason for living. Some people were willing to die to make sure everyone had the same rights and that it was guaranteed.

Perhaps. This is the thing. Politicians will do what it takes to get votes, if it means selling people out. My point was that we have people who act like it's their business to get Blacks to vote Republican.
