"Recent advertisements, splashed across billboards, buses and radio waves, have taken a pointed approach to discussing the link between farms and water pollution. Now, the Environmental Protection Agency is under fire for its indirect funding of the campaign."

Farmers who "Do whatever they want with their land" , i.e. don't follow environmental best practices, create problems with water quality.

How that should be dealt with is not a question I can answer. But it's a reality that the things many farmers do on their land is an externality that other people downstream are paying the costs for. This is especially true in dry areas.

I know some people like to maintain this fantasy that farmers are fostering some kind of medieval pastoral society, but agribusiness today is an industry, and has great potential to impact the environment for everyone else.

And that's the basis of even small-government libertarian ideology -- that you can do whatever you want until it starts affecting other people.

Of course there is an element of truth. The problem is the EPA has morphed into a fringe organization headed by compulsive personalities and slippery slope logic that makes breathing a threat to the 'environment'.

Agribusiness is not a small farm or large garden, of which there are many. Like so many issues the view from the liberal mindset sees no degrees of position. that is why uttering an errant, banned word, equates to the most vicious hate filled sociopathic racist. No distinction between a conscious awareness and active support of environmental respect and does not buy into human caused global warming has been declared the enemy of the people of the earth by warmers.

The EPA is an out of control extremist political organization. Especially now they have granted free eagle kills for green enrgy windmills. Believe the sanctioned kill without penalties is up around 485 dead eagles.

Gut the EPA!

Right, but the ad campaign is targeting agribusiness. It has nothing to do with small farms or large gardens.

OP's editorializing of the thread title is a little bit misleading.

Leftists have already driven up the cost of food. How much more will they drive it up before no one can afford to eat?

The price of food is driven up by the price of land and the price of fuel, for which you can thank Wall Street and congressional finance committees.

The price of food is not driven by the EPA asking nicely for farmers to plant riparian buffers and apply reasonable levels of fertilizer.
