Being a liberal, it's nearly impossible for me to get into these forums here, as everyone seems (is) so right wing, to put it mildly! Oh, every now and then I chime in w/ something, but it's done w/ the idea that absolutely no one is going to accept whatever a liberal says unless I'm maybe in the California, Hawaii, etc forums, and even then it's not a given.

So tonight I looked at some liberal/progressive online forums w/ the idea of joining up, and after a while all I could think of was....why am I doing this? Everything they said was pretty much what I thought was right, and after a while you say uh huh, right, I agree, and then what? I suppose the right wingers do the same thing, but they seem encouraged to post more. I was discouraged from posting. Since we all agreed, why go on and on and on?

It was very strange and unexpected. W/o trying to convince someone of something, it just fell apart. And you and I know that no one is ever going to be moved from their position in an online forum anyway, no matter how good the argument or how plain the facts. The whole thing just made me realize that we're getting all riled up for no good reason. It appears to be simply one side shouting SHE'S EVIL, and the other side shouting HE'S EVIL. That's just nuts.

I learned quite a bit. Sometimes I was wrong and was corrected by others. I appreciate the correction as it helps me learn.

Only wish liberals can be more open minded, better at math and actually can put money where their mouth is.

I am willing to listen and read other viewpoints, even when I don't agree with that particular viewpoint, because for me I can often agree with points the other person is trying to make. In person, I am willing to listen to what someone has to say; provided that they are willing to listen to what I have to say.

This is not the kind of forum that you are going to be making grandiose changes; just people expressing their personal views on various subjects.

Doubt anyone gets converted to the other side here. I used to spend some time in the political sections on a couple forums. Nowadays, not much at all. Pretty much a waste of time. With few exceptions I visit a forum for it's intended purpose...guns, cigars, city/state info, etc.

It's good for putting your own views to the test/refining your arguments/staying sharp on issues, and also to expose others to arguments they may have never heard before. Those are the main reasons I like to post.

I laugh at those too, like the poster thinks everyone is fooled by the guise a serious question, "Liberals, are you happy the country is falling apart?" My other favorite, "I've voted republican since Eisenhower but consider myself an independent."

or, how stupid can you be? Of course giving your money to the government gives you more money, or how welfare stimulates, etc..

Do these political forums accomplish anything?

No, they are as inefficient as the government.

It's entertaining- some times people take the forums too seriously- not having a clue who is typing- Many be surprised of what I do, where I stand and who I am- They keep trying to control and put you in a box-- the forums are an expression of thoughts and sometimes informative- some times pure baloney
