Exactly. I don't get it, either. /SMH

"the guv'ment" is what gave us the computer, the internet we use, parks, libraries, public schools, roads you drive on, the clean water you drink, vaccination programs, the postal service. Be happy you have the guv'ment. Mexico has a weak government. So does the Congo.

Obamacare may have partially solved the competition issue but they have doubled down on the mandates. On top of that they a forcing insurance companies to accept anyone which is fine as long as everyone is paying into the system but that hasn't happened....

The government has been screwing this up for decades and you want to give them more power? pfffffffffffft
Every single country in the world has come to the same conclusion. The public sector is the best and most efficient way to deal with health care, so thats why every country has a national health care system, which lo and behold costs half of what Americans pay and everyone is covered.

In large part because of corporate-friendly intellectual property law in this country. Drug companies can be granted monopolies on a substance they didn't even invent, that's been around for 500 years. As a drug consumer you are captive.

Also because of the consolidation between hospitals. When you have an emergency and you need surgery, not only can you not "Shop around", but even if you could shop around, the pricing scheme isn't transparent, so you don't know the prices. As a hospital consumer you are captive.

The only way to fix this situation is to have the government set prices. The "Health Care Market" is incapable of functioning properly in the hands of corporate America.

Tax the middle class at the highest marginal income tax rate, and enact a 20-25% VAT to pay for it. Let's see how many people want national health care when they'll actually have to PAY for it.

"UC Davis's Peter Lindert has argued in his book "Growing Public" that European social democracies were only able to develop the programs they did because they used efficient consumption taxes that didn't lower growth as much as progressive income taxes, particularly those on capital income. European countries needed tax systems that could raise a lot of money without hurting growth, and only regressive consumption taxes fit the bill."

Health care costs in every single developed country is a fraction of what the costs in "efficient" America is. Who knows why you defend the corrupt system in place. Are you against public parks, roads, libraries, utilities, fire departments and vaccination programs as well?

The current health care system isnt meant to serve the people like you, but the fat cats on top and they buy politicians to keep it that way.

Your local big city DMV on steroids.

Longer lines, crappier service, and no one gives a flying crap what you complain about, cuz they is the only game in town, this is as good as it will ever get; you have nowhere else to go.

Viva la socialism!!

One of the main reasons for high medical care costs in the USA has been federal government intervention, horrible policies that promote driving up costs thru the roof.

When i was a kid, doctors made house calls, for $10. Then government stepped in with free care, and over the years costs shot up, because charging or paying high prices don't matter when someone else is picking up the bill.

We should do what other countries do and provide basic, crappy health care to the poor and let everyone else pay for their own good care. I've had to hear about health care as a political issue my whole life and I'm tired of it.

I agree, but those countries still tax REGRESSIVELY to pay for it. Do you think Americans would agree to be taxed REGRESSIVELY to pay for national health care?
