So let me ask you this: who do you propose should pay for this? And why should it be on them? And should that be mandatory?
The taxpayers of course. It's been done prior to the 1980s and only paying a small portion of higher education. The cost to tax payers would be minimal since the goverment already gives put federal money to colleges that is equivalent to the current cost in a year to pay for students attending community colleges maybe less.

Employers already view an Associates as 13th and 14th grade. There would be no advantage of receiving it. The new benchmark is already a 4 year.

I don't know about that. Many law enforcement agencies in the State prefer have your associates then go for your bachelor's with them. Same for nursing. Firefighters. Psych jobs. LPNs. Automotive Techs. Airplane Mechanics. Pilots. Respiratory therapist. Radiology Technicians.

People can still benefit from associates degree or take classes to advance into a bachelor's program.

I do think things should change. Books should not cost what they do. K-12 should be free because you kids don't work therefore have 0 $'s for school.

I don't think it should be free tuition though. First off, tax payers are going to pay for it. How many people are going to graduate high school "barely" & then go off to college and just flunk out. How much money on a large scale is going to be wasted like that?

I think federal grants and federal loam money should only go to public universities. Also private universities shouldn't receive any State or Federal money.

Thoughts...
Schgools should NOT be Free. Nothing is more expensive that "Free" stuff - the costs are just indirect, and when you don't pay for something, you don't really have a legitimate voice to complain with.

Absolutely. All education should be accessible to anyone who wants to receive it regardless of socio-economic status.

Maybe... but the underlying question is SHOULD we (the taxpayers) pay for education and healthcare? This isn't just a money question.

Only for STEM majors. There is a HUGE benefit to society for having a well-educated workforce when it comes to the sciences.

I will help pay for your degree in Bio-Chemistry....if you want to do the liberal arts like basket weaving and ethnic studies that's on your dime.
