Raise the fares a little sure. I pay for roads I will never drive on, so you will need to pay for mass transit you will never ride on. That's how it work.

It doesn't work where you raid funds. Just because you live in a small town/ small metro where public transit isn't worthwhile means very little.

Coin balanced on high speed train.

When are we going to have something like that? 10, 20, 30 years? The right answer is probably NEVER.
China was smart. They invested billions in roads and transit while we started wars.

China is now planning to build beyond the Chinese frontiers to connect areas it views as Chinese aligned or hopes will be when they kick the USA or any other foreign influence. Plans are underway to build a Bangkok-Singapore route , a route through Burma, another route along the Silk Road through central asia, this will split into a route through Iran to the Persian Gulf and another going to Moscow where it will link up to a 1500 mile High speed rail line to St Petersburg just built by the Russians (Sansan). China has offered tofinance and rebuild the 8000 mile TransSiberian Railroad as a high speed rail line reducing this trip to a few days rather than a few weeks now. China is also offering to build other high speed rail line in South Africa and Mexico.
So, because they will build a rail it must be a success.

Meanwhile, a billion chinese people live in abject poverty.

Because the Chinese Communist government decides to do whatever they want to do. They own all of the land and make all of the decisions. They have no issues with doing things that are not financially justified.

Actually they are light years behind us. They just spend a lot of money on rail. Otherwise, they are where we were 80 years ago.

China was stupid. And their GDP per person will never catch up with us. Not in the next 100 years.

Central planning never works over the long term.

LOL. China has a very dense population. They mostly invested wisely in actual infrastructure so there's nothing stupid about it and nothing to actually debate about it. What does their GDP per capita in 100 years have to do with anything?

But hey..... Like how America's government acquired territory and funded westward expansion through investing in railroads by selling the land to settlers and big business? Or maybe you thought Manifest Destiny was something else....

Or by all means.... change what you meant by "...never works over the long term". I can't wait to see how you move the field goal post.

That is factually incorrect. But hey.... you are one of those who thinks railroads are 19th century technology. First you think ingesting 0.04% of your body's weight of cyanide won't harm and now you say this.... Christ..... You are so out of touch.

You're claiming to be unfairly taxed and your solution is more unfair taxes. LOL

The important factor is the Chinese are establishing the infrastructure they will use to fuel their growth while we are wasting our wealth on wars to protect existing investments. They are not that far behind and are catching up as we stagnate because we moved our industries to China because their wages were lower and our businesses short term profits higher.

We should be using tariffs to rebuild our industries as well as stop trying to protect American investments outside this country. We can use that money to build a medium distance transport system that is not dependent on airplanes, busses or trucks.
