554 reviewers rated that one tramp vegas motel as poor or terrible.
The tramp "taj mahal" in Atlantic City is rated two notches lower than a Best Western.
(just ahead of a Howard Johnson and a Days Inn)
Look it up on TripAdvisor right now. Go. Do it.
The Taj Mahal is no longer owned by Trump. It may still carry the name "Trump Taj Mahal" but, he doesn't own it nor does he own any other casino or hotel properties in Atlantic City and hasn't for years. As a matter of fact Trump Entertainment Resorts is not owned by Donald Trump anymore either.
One may feel the need to question the authenticity of the information in an article that can't even get the owners of said properties correct.

The Priceonomics article doesn't mention or address ownership. It's about Trump badged hotels. Travelers see the Trump name and make a decision based on that.

The priceonomics article also does not cover all bookings at Trump badged properties, only the few that are booked thru their site. It obviously was red meat for the anti-trump crowd.

You could be right about the Trump "badged" hotels but, the article does not say that. It seems to try to lead the reader to believe that these properties are all owned by Trump. At no point does it offer that it is the Trump Brand that is suffering. As a matter of fact it specifically says,

If you mix business and politics, there's a good chance it will have implications for your business.
And that says, to me, that the hotels mentioned in the article are Trump's businesses. I think that that is misleading.
Does ANY place in Atlantic city doing a GOOD BUSINESS?
Atlantic City hasn't been doing "a good business" since they started allowing Indian reservations to open up casinos. It used to be that you only had two choices. Las Vegas or Atlantic City. People from Connecticut no longer had to take that 3 hour drive to AC, because they now had Mohegan Sun right around the corner. Same goes for PA, and other states in the area.
It isn't completely dead, as there aren't that many places that have both casinos AND the beach. And the boardwalk is pretty cool. I still like to go once in a while, but it is nothing like it used to be.

I took a trip to Vegas many years ago and my plane went through Philly.
I asked people who boarded why they were going to Vegas when AC was so close.
Their answer was, "Have you ever been to Vegas?"
I said , "No this is my first trip". (1 week after the MGM Grand opened)
They said," Ask us on the return trip".
After going to Vegas, I said I would NEVER go to AC again.

And I haven't.
"Nuff said about AC.
True. Vegas is Vegas.
Atlantic City is more like a quick weekend getaway, while Vegas is a vacation.
