When growing up it was frowned upon to be having children without being married and having a Father, but you do understand that generations ago our families were split up and Black fathers were removed from the families, including their children, and their wives. Fast forward generations later and black men have adopted the same mindset that was enforced through their slave masters.
You're blaming what happened 100 years ago for why so many Black families really started having problems around 1965? Please tell me WHY most Black families had 2 parent households from 1865 till 1965; especially since Jim Crow was a REAL problem in a big part of the US.
History has a funny way of repeating itself, just this time instead of the slave owner taking care of the children and the mother, the government via our taxes does and it is just like they want it to be. Everybody cannot be FREE!!!

If this was all they have, of course it isn't enough. THAT was never the intention.
Listen up: When I was younger I had three friends (brothers) who were all from different fathers. Their mother was collecting welfare, and lived in a fairly decent home which was subsidized through section 8. All of them worked (the Brothers) and had fairly decent income, but of course none of it was ever claimed.
The mom drove a new Lexus, which was registered in her daughters name.
Believe me, they are probably not the average/typical welfare family... however I witnessed first hand how they juked the system.
People will always try to screw a system, but they should never be looked at as the standard or average for those in need of assistance, that just hurts those in need.

The rise of the welfare state in the 1960s contributed greatly to the demise of the black family as a stable institution. The out-of-wedlock birth rate among African Americans today is 73%, three times higher than it was prior to the War on Poverty. Children raised in fatherless homes are far more likely to grow up poor and to eventually engage in criminal behavior, than their peers who are raised in two-parent homes. In 2010, blacks (approximately 13% of the U.S. population) accounted for 48.7% of all arrests for homicide, 31.8% of arrests for forcible rape, 33.5% of arrests for aggravated assault, and 55% of arrests for robbery. Also as of 2010, the black poverty rate was 27.4% (about 3 times higher than the white rate), meaning that 11.5 million blacks in the U.S. were living in poverty.

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 28, 2013 (Acton Institute) - In 1989 Erol Ricketts, a researcher with the Rockefeller Foundation, found that between 1890 and 1950, blacks had higher marriage rates than whites, according to the U.S. Census. The report, titled “The Origin of Black Female-Headed Families,” published in the Spring/Summer issue of Focus(32-37) provides an overview that highlights an important question.
People don't want to believe the facts, but welfare has had the polar opposite effect of what was intended.
The black single parent rate was in SINGLE DIGITS before the War On Poverty started in the 1960's.
After that it sky rocketed.
The War on Poverty had the OPPOSITE effect.
I saw a documentary about public housing, "the pruitt-igoe myth," that discussed how there was a "man in the house rule" that families receiving assistance could not have an able-bodied man in the house. In that case, the government literally ripped families apart.
Having a father has somewhat become a white privelege. I think barack obama is important because his devotion to sasha and malia gives black men a good role model. But more must be done -- disintegrated family structure is not just a black problem. It has become an american problem.
BS. 90% of the world "raises a family" on less than that. And how can you expect to raise a family when there is no father around who doesn't pay child support? Or maybe don't have 6 kids if you can't support 1.
The cost of living is different in every country so that was a garbage argument on your end.
