13 is crazy young, but it's interesting they are 10 years apart in age and nobody would think anything of their relationship in 5-6 years. Of course so much growth happens from 13-18, but the growth doesn't really stop-I think it's why many relationships end after several years or even decades. This lady messed up big time though-I couldn't even imagine if the genders were reversed.
Well, by our Societies standard its illegal. Will the boy suffer long term problems associated with having sex with this young woman? Not likely.
Says you in the body of a man however old you are remembering with nostalgia your first roll in the hay with whoever you rolled in the hay with, some distant moment in time ago.
If you honestly think this, then would you also think that a girl of the same age would also suffer no long term problems associated with having sex with a 24 year old man? After all it's a well known fact that women mature faster than men, and it's only at around mid twenties that the maturity levels catch up.

I slept with a former teacher of mine a few years out of high school. I remember thinking that it was odd at the time since she was 12 years older than me. She had contacted me on MySpace when it had first gotten big, and we had a few conversations about how the track team was doing, as she was also a former coach of mine.

After a brief conversation that instantly turned sexual, we agreed to meet at a casino for drinks later that evening. Long story short, we ended up getting a room, and it was a REALLY fun night.
Nothing ever came from it, as we lived over 5 hours away from each other, and there was a huge age gap. The thing that I found really odd about the whole situation was the fact that she told me that she wanted to sleep with me when I was in high school, and that she always felt like there was a ton of sexual tension between us.
I remember being flirty with her, but I would have never thought in a million years that she would have slept with me when I was 17-18 years old or had a real attraction to me. We're talking about an educated attractive 30 year old woman that did triathlons. It makes no sense to me that a woman like that would want to sleep with a teenage boy and risk everything when she obviously had tons of age appropriate options.
The point of this story is that I think a LOT more sexual encounters between teenage boys and adult women take place than people realize, and adult females in a power or authority position take advantage of the fact that society doesn't view these encountesites the same way they do with the genders switched.
Now that I'm nearing middle age, I look at this woman in a completely different light. While her and I never had sex when i was a minor, I suspect that I can't be the only student that she's ever had a thing for. It makes me wonder????
She is every bit a sexual deviant as a male teacher preying on a female student would be. Hopefully her crime will be treated as severely as it would be were the sexes reversed. It is obviously about power.
Most people are sexually deviant at some times in some way. That hardly matters. What counts is the damage done and punishment should be based on that. So, considering that nobody involved had a problem with anything this young woman did, how much damage did she do? It could be argued that the worst thing she did was get an abortion, but that's legal.
I think it depends. As I said in the post above: 13 years old changes the double standard a bit. If it was 16 or 17, then ya know, whatever, but 13 is pedophilia.
It may be pedophilia, but I doubt the boy will suffer from trauma because of this.
Back to the teacher, there's something wrong with her. She's young (24) and reasonably attractive, so I'm sure there are guys her age who would have sex with her gladly. Yet she chose to target a 13-year old kid. They're not even fully developed yet, are they? That's just disgusting.
Looks like people are saying that the boys are lucky and not to be looked at as victims because they don't think there are lasting effects.
I think it depends on individuals.

I have three baby nephews, one godson. There are male child molesters out there, there are also female predators like this teacher. What parents don't want their boys growing up to be normal adults? falling in love with girls similar age, having kids and be happy. Who wants their sons and nephews to be paying child support at age of 13? These adult women are certainly mentally ill.

I have to agree with a caveat here. The downward spiral to alcoholism and drugs can happen to anyone (no matter the age) when one simply can't handle a break up or anything stressful in life for that matter. If the target is already mentally unstable, then yes, the chance of this to have a lasting negative effect is bigger.
Not saying this is right. As I said in my other post, something's wrong with the teacher and I would even call her a sexual predator for targetting a 13-year old kid. But the kid in this story though, it sounded like the parents accepted their 'relationship' and even invited her to family gatherings, called her their son's 'girlfriend', knew about her pregnancy and were happy about it, etc. So it's not something they kept hush-hush about.
