"We are fortunate to have two wonderful children, each with an intense zeal for life. Ronnie, our six-and-a-half-year-old son, is filled with empathy and a love for all things active. Ellie, our five-and-a-half-year-old daughter, can light up a room with her magnetic smile and loves to run, laughing, as mommy and daddy chase her to the park.
Ellie is also transgender. She was born male, and we all thought she was a boy until, at age four, she let us know who she truly was."
"The Ford family lives in Washington, D.C., where Ron works for the federal government and Vanessa teaches science in a public school".
Part of me thinks that young people (parent's in this case) do this to be part of what's "in" at the moment. Kids don't know they are transgender or whatever.
According to an article I read on a science magazine, For some children, expressing gender-expansiveness may be a phase; for others, it is not. Only time will tell.
So this one might be a trans-gender, or is just going through a phase. Nobody really knows.
But why do these parents say that he is not a threat/ Nobody says he is.
The child may very well be transgendered. People like this exist. Why demonize them? What do we gain by that? Acceptance is better.
Your chance of winning the lottery is greater than your chance of coming across a transgender.
These parents are off the wall and it's apparant to almost everyone.
Friend's kid insisted he was superman and wore a superman costume to nursery school for weeks.
I'm sure the feds will offer low interest loans to parents of transgender's or perhaps a transgender parking permit good for any handicapped parking spot.
If the attention directed to the very rare "transgender issue" was instead directed to the VA, far more good would be accomplished.

If it's a phase and the kid grows out of it, great. If it's not, and this kid is a lottery ticket holder, I'm glad his parents and community are supportive.
