well, In observance of Memorial Day, fly the United States flag at half staff from sunrise until NOON , and then raise it to full height from noon to sundown. So .....

I don't get his "political affiliation " as a reason, but he reportedly marched to the pole Marine-style, came to full attention, lowered the flag, then about-faced and walked away.
