This is a perfect example of the failure of the mental health system. There are many, many alarm bells in his behavior that should've warranted *extensive* psychological intervention, not just one time where the school psychologist probably did little more than go through the motions just so the school could check that box.
But, as usual, the school was more interested in disciplining him...over and over and over again. Obviously that wasn't working, so it's time to look for the underlying psychological disturbance this kid clearly had.
After all, the definition of insanity itself is to try the same thing over and over and expect different results.
Doesn't seem like the family assimilated worth a crap.
Yes, his parents migrated here from Afghanastan. His father had ties to the Taliban. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Their culture is so different than ours. I don't think many assimilate very well. We shouldn't be importing foreigners here whose culture isn't compatible with ours.

Apparently he threatened to kill all students in 5th grade, sang about marijuana in third grade, and could hardly manage Cs/Ds in school. Just the kind of immigrant we want.
He wasn't an immigrant, he was American.
As American as the kids who have done mass shootings in movie theatres, schools, etc.. all across the country.
This is an American problem. It was a hate crime- he specifically targeted Gays, and who knows, maybe he killed them also because they were Latinos. That night at the club was Latin Night. Why are people ignoring that? Then, he also threw in the pledge to ISIS.

How can you blame the mental health system? The NRA-owned GOP has legislated that ANYONE can buy a gun. As they said in Killer Angels, it's his "rats".
Again, I am ALL FOR the 2nd amendment (yet someone will lump me in with the gun-grabbers), but there has to be some reasonable controls in place. You can't legally drive a car or board a plane without controls, but any whack-job with a history of violence and mental illness has a "rat" to carry an assault rifle? I don't think that is consistent with what our founding fathers intended. (For that matter, if you are a true conservative, who believes that the constitution does not change with the times, then the 2nd amendment gives you the "rat" to own a musket.....)

Bad grades, disrespectful kids, violent behavior - sounds like they assimilated just fine. That described a good chunk of my high school class in an all-white, upper middle class area. Most of those kids ended up in jail on drunk driving or domestic violence charges, though, painfully, people seem to serve either short or no sentences for DV.
His first wife filed a police report. Doesn't seem anything happened to him since he was still able to secure a security job as a known wife beater.
Yes he was. So was the kid that shot me with a paintball gun(and no, he wasn't playing a game). So were the kids that jumped me in a classroom. The kids that mugged me one night were born and raised here. Most of our violent offenders in prison consists of people who were born and raised here.
Yep, plenty of criminal azzholes in this country already. No frickin' reason to import more.

The problem is she must not have followed through. Domestic violence conviction (or plea) and you forfeit your gun rights for life.
Yeah he was nuttier than a fruit cake and easily recruited along with the thousands of radical Islamic psycho's worldwide. They all need psychological intervention.
