Isn't DC one of the murder Capitals of the US??

And, if you are the victim of a Home invasion by armed intruders?

I'm sure my son or daughter will not commit suicide with a firearm from my home

Think it through, please.

1. A guy assaults you holding a dangerous knife. The knife can't hurt you unless the assailant is close enough to you to strike you. The only way you "defend" yourself is to disarm the assailant, that is, to be close enough to the assailant to remove the knife from his grip.

2. A guy threatens you while holding a gun. He won't allow you to approach him without first shooting you. So you cannot disarm him. But you are carrying your own gun, and the other guy doesn't know it. So you draw your weapon to fire at him. You have not performed an act of "self-defense" because you never disarmed the assailant, rather you ATTACKED the assailant using your own gun. You had NO DEFENSE against a gunshot coming from the assailant's weapon.

So we are talking about dealing with weapons where there is no defense other than advocating a proliferation of that weapon. MADNESS.

The incidence of all violent crimes taken together has DROPPED nationwide in recent years.

That's not what I asked.

I work in law enforcement part of the time, so I guess I'm using my own experiences and those personally observed/backed up by police/federal officers...if not too many burglars/other criminals carry guns, why do you want them banned so badly? Just to take 'em out of legal, responsible people's hands, I guess.

If each & everyone of us was willing to defend himself & his fellow co-citizen, America would be a crime-free paradise.

What a dreamer. Certainly not as long as there is a continuing proliferation of handguns.
