If a burglar is a harmless petty thief who means no harm but just breaks in to get some things he can't pay for.

And a robber is a creepy guy who might beat me up or shoot me to take my stuff.

What happens when a burglar breaks into my home and I'm there?

Which is he, a robber or a burglar?

Either one needs to not come here.

Why don't you say what you mean?

A burglar doesn't expect to find anyone home; they probably already know when you're likely to be away from home. So having a gun at home doesn't do you any good, because YOU WON'T BE AT HOME TO USE IT! Burglars are also typically unarmed.

A robber who walks into a store during business hours intending to commit a crime of theft is not going to act like a burglar, is he?

These distinctions, and the ramifications for one's own personal safety and the likelihood of one being in real danger, seem be beyond your grasp. I've been too subtle for you.

If someone breaks into my home and steals my stuff when I'm not home, I guess I'll agree not to shoot him.

Having just (legally) bought a new 9mm this thread has been very interesting/informative. I'm sure a lot of the disagreement has to do with geographical differences. Where I live gun ownership is pretty commonplace and there is very few shootings.

as it is here in Colorado as well. There is a great deal of gun ownership here, and a great deal of CCW permit holders, although you would never know that the person standing next to you in line at Mcdonnalds might have a gun.

If the police aren't there to enforce the laws...how would they ascertain I was there?

Because maybe the little old lady you watch get robbed or beaten will tell them there was a young healthy scumbag stood & watched it all happen.
